Well we haven't heard from Don Stratton for a while. It's a pity as Total Remote promised a lot and Don was a good contributor to this forum. I realise that TR was small fry in the griffin stable but a lot of good stuff was promised with V3 enough to make me hold off trying new software or remotes. I wonder what happened? Has TR died, is it still being developed, is Don still around?
Anyone (Don included) got any updates on this?

Griffin Technologies has stopped the further development of Total Remote:

Here are replies I received from the software
makers. If anyone else has any info, let me know.

Cardonware
We currently support the Axim x50s and don't have
much experience with
the other HP models at this time. The x50v IrDA
is top mounted and has
very good range even without our UltraMote Extender(r).
The x50v is a
super PDA and is great for home multitasking as
described in our recent
article on Hometoys. We can also add you to our
notification list and
email you if we add either the 47xx or 27xx in
future versions.

WinCeSoft
Haven't tested the iPAQ 4705 and 2750, but have
some customers which have
bought RC II for these models.
I can attest the Dell x50v a good CIR- transmit
range because I'm using it.
One of next versions of RC II will have a screen
rotate function, so the IR
transceiver at the bottom of the hx4700 should
be no problem.

Griffin Technologies
We have not tested the PDAs you have listed, so
we can not make any
comment on their functionality with the Total
Remote Software. We have
stopped development on the software so there will
likely be no future
updates.

Thanks Frank,
Guess I won't hold my breath on TR any longer. However, I gave RC II a go today. Sorry Frank but really disappointing.
I loaded the trial version with high expectations. learnt the TV1 page for my Panasonic 200A HDTV tried to change channels..nothing...volume...nothing. Ok I know enable the CIR IR device. Oops... A message appears CIR support is not working in this version yet but will be available soon. Fine no probs I can wait. let's get real close to the TV 6" away. Still no response then a screen says I've reached the keypress limit of my trial. You must be kidding! How can I evaluate a program that limits me so much? I couldn't get it to do one action before it shut down. Any comments Frank?
Thanks

Frank I forgot to mention I'm using an ipaq 3950. You have the 3970 listed as tested on your site so I had hoped for better results!

The iPaq 3950 has two IR- LED's included.
One consumer IR- LED for NEVO and one IrDA- LED for data transfers.
The UEI- CIR controller is still not supported by RC II, so its uses the IrDA- port instead.
Unfortunately all CIR- capable iPAQs (2200, 3950, 3970, 5400) have a very short IrDA- transmit range (less than 3-4 feet, up to 10 times less than other PocketPC's).

I have never tested the iPAQ 3950, but this should be compatible to the 3970.
Does the IR- code learning work ?
Have you tested this with other devices ?

The trial version is limited to thirty IR- transmissions per session. This means you can restart RC II and send again 30 times.

Hi Frank,
I Didn't realise it was 30 presses per session so will give it another go but withour CIR support it's not going to be a goer really, can't sit that close to the gear or I may as well change things myself! Frank any ideas when CIR support will be available for the 3950?
Cheers
