Hello,

I have a Dell Axim x50v and TV Remote Controller v5.5 with a CCF file for Pronto's.

Thus far, the remote works with all my components at a good distance, less than 15ft (small apt).

However, it seems to be beaming the IR signals very slowly, about I signal per second. Changing the channel takes ages if you want to just channel surf. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if there's a setting that needs to be changed.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Joey

I hope you are still monitoring this thread. I've just loaded my old iPAQ CCF files onto a new x50v and I've got the same problem as you, and worse. Only a limited number of my devices are responsing, AND, I've got the one IR per second issue.

Did you ever get any help with this, or find your own way out of it. Does the IR port have to be switched to CIR from Irda, and if so, how?

Hello Stricko,

Well, in my particular case the only solution was to switch programs. I'm currently testing out Total Remote (from Griffen Technologies). They have a demo of the program and it seems to work pretty well. This new program beams the IR signals instantly and I have no problems with any of my devices. HOWEVER, the D-pad is no longer working and it is a known problem within the program. One of the programmers state that it's a problem that will be resolved in their next revision v3.0 (which might be a long...long time away).

So, at the end of the day, it looks like the PDA for remote control on a Dell X50 using CCF is a mixed bag. On the one had you have Total Remote which works wonderfully except for D-pad control. On the other hand you have PDAWin's TV remote controller which also works well except for the slow as day IR signals.

If anyone can shed any light on the particular issues in each of these programs please post or direct us in the right direction.

thanks

Joey, thanks for the response.

I've tried Total remote as well, but could not get it to work fully. I've now switched to trying NetRemoteIR, which looks promising so far.

Just to share my experience of using remote controls software. I've downloaded Novii Remote for PPC 2.2 for a trial and programmed my tv and dvd in it . The app comes with a huge database of codes and so I just copied the codes from the previous remote control. I use the device from comfortable 15 feet. Now I'm learning the universal remote from the original remote controls.

Mr Twister

I'm still working on my NetRemote version, but I've had a few problems getting the hard buttons on my X50v to behave the way I want. This may be my fault, but I put it down 2-3 weeks ago and havn't managed to get back to it.

I think you should stick to the 3x series Axims. They have a more powerful IR diode. My X3 is very quick and strong, they're cheap too (on Ebay).
I think the X30 will also do the job although it is reported to have slightly less range.
My X3 does 7 metres and works fine with Netremote.
Used to work with TR as well, main prob there was the lack of repeating buttons (volume).

Does Novii Remote understand CCF files? I didn't see any indication on their website. I suppose that means no }:-(

Here are my impressions thus far. I think total remote 2.2.577 works the best for Dell Axim x50v out of any of the programs out there if you want to use CCF files. However, there's one major flaw and that's the directional button (D-pad) found on Pronto (CCF) devices does NOT work with this program. I emailed tech support asking if that problem will be addressed and it doesn't look like it. The current version has been around for a long time so i'm not sure if there's much support.

Many of the other programs out there TV Remote Controller and Netremote works in CCF mode (ie D-pad works) but the beaming is way too slow. So I chose the lesser of the 2 evils and currently live without the use of the D-pad (major annoyance when dealing with DVD's). These 2 programs also do NOT look like they'll be updated any time soon either.

I'm curious if anyone has compiled a list of Learning Remote programs out for PPC's, if they can run CCF files, and their shortcomings/improvements?

That's my spill.
