Dell CIR (Consumer Infrared) PDAs do not exist.
According to the Dell salesguy I just got off the phone with (800-WWW-DELL).

It's Dec 15, 2004. About 11:30am I got off the phone with Dell.

I'm shopping for a PDA that has built in CIR (Consumer Infrared) and WiFi.

The Dell guy had some bad news and it's confusing:
I asked which Dell PDAs had both WiFi and CIR built in.
He put me on hold and came back and said NONE of their PDAs had CIR.
I said that had to be wrong, I keep reading (especially from Don!) that the X3i's did great and the X30's were almost as good. The Dell guy insisted that he'd spoken with a very authoritative guy who not only worked in tech support, but was also one of their PDA designers (how amazing for a sales guy answering the 800-number phone could get such an obviously-in-demand authority on the phone with him in a minute or 2...) and the guy certainly knew what he was talking about.

Dell sure doesn't claim CIR for the X30 on their website and there's no mention of the X3i at all. (Don't you wish all companies would have a "decommissioned products" area on their web site?).

Has Dell ever publically claimed that their X30's had CIR?

I spoke with HP and they named several of their models that had CIR and WiFi:
- 4705: $650. VGA screen, super nice. Way much $.
- 3115: $350: 300 MHz Samsung CPU, 56mb "available memory"
- 3715: $500: 400 MHz Samsung CPU, 125mb "available memory"
(basically the 3715 is the 3115 w/ a faster CPU and more memory. That's what the sale guy said anyway. And no HP comes bundled with any tv-remote software and they sell none as well.)

So, I'm probably going to be buying one of those HP 3115's unless someone has a better suggestion ;-)

The RX3115 and RX3715 Has Nevo embedded into the ROM which is remote control software. There are also some older HP with CIR, 2215,5450. I have the RX3115 and I use it all the time.

That Dell guy is an idiot, and probably a liar, unless he misunderstood the question.

The recent Axims (x30 etc.) do have Consumer IR. Works fine with NetRemote
