Are any remote Pocket PC products compatible with Pocket PC Phone Edition? I just purchased an iPAQ 6315 and tried the Total Remote demo, but it froze whenever I tried to program a button. I am considering trading in the iPAQ for a Samsung i700, which also runs Pocket PC Phone Edition.

Bear in mind that (to the best of my knowledge) there is not one single PPC remote control app that will run right on either a Samsung or TI processor. This is not the fault of the software, but a limitation of the way we all have to access the hardware on the PPC.

Total Remote has a bizzare "get out of jail free" option. Thanks to our audio transmitter we can completely bypass using the PPC's IrDA port for transmission, so using codes from a preconfigured RCDEV or CCF (or from the IRDB) will "generally" work perfectly (within the limitations of the audio transmitter). HOWEVER, you absolutely CANNOT use the PPC's IrDA port for learning, so you MUST bring preconfigured codes to the PPC.

We don't like it, we don't support it, but TECHNICALLY it has the potential to work. I have happily used an iPaq 1910 (with TI processor) and a 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo adapter from Radio Shack to control my lab's test gear without any problem at all. Caveat emptor and YMMV.
