Has anyone heard of any other projects similar to OmniRemote. With all due respect, I think OmniRemote
is pretty lame graphically.

How hard would it be to write something that could use native Pronto setups?

For that matter, is OmniRemote planning on improving their interface graphics.

Have you tried a utility called OrDesktop (ordesktop.com)? It is an add on to OmniRemote that increases its usability. Basically it allows you to build your screens and macros on a PC and download them to your OminRemote application. OrDesktop will let you cut and paste Pronto setups into it. So you can take advantage of what other people have done with the Pronto.

Don't know what the future plans are for OmniRemote from a graphical perspective.

Cut and paste from Pronto? I've had no luck making this work. The pronto codes are so short and the Omniremote codes are so long, they look way, way, WAY different. It doesn't work. Has anyone actually found out how to make it work? I e-mailed ORdesktop two weeks ago but they have not yet replied (no too impressed so far!).

Here's my example:
HarmanKardon AVR80 Receiver
"Mute" IR code as learned using Omniremote:

"Mute" IR code from Pronto CCF file for exact same button of same receiver:

What did I miss? Is ORdesktop making false claims?

I found the same problem with Proto codes for Sony components. They don't work, and they are much shorter than the "learned" codes.

Don't forget that you must use actual learned codes from the Pronto, no codes that start with 8000, 7000, or 5000. They must start just with 0. There is another post in the Home Theater Forum where Daniel explains some of this.

Greg, I've searched the Home Theatre Forum and the Pronto Forum for this info with no luck. Any more clues on how to find this info? Where do you find the "acutal learned codes" in a Pronto or Pronto edit?

Al,

The Pronto IR code sequence is converted to the OmniRemote format by ORDesktop when you copy and paste the code into ORDesktop. OmniRemote generally uses a "smaller" sequence of code to send the signal.

I've been very successful in copying and pasting the "discrete" Pronto codes for Pioneer CD and DVD changers -- you may want to try the discrete codes for your receiver if they are available.

Andy, I'm sorry but I don't understand whay you mean. At what point does ORdesktop do it's "conversion"?
I pasted the Pronto code 5000 0073 0001 0000 0010 000d into ORdesktop and it does nothing (doesn't control my receiver, suposed to be Mute). Where does this conversion you speak of occur or how does one get it to convert a Pronto code to an Omniremote code?

As well, this is contrary to what Greg is saying (who's correct?).
...and I'm still waiting for a reply from ORdesktops techsupport, glad I didn't waste the $20 yet on ORdesktop.

Im having the same problems with discrete IR codes for my sony components. The pioneer codes for on and off on my dvd player worked perfectly, but none of the sony codes worked at all!! (tv, vcr, cd player and mini-disc)

This is the only reason why I bought ORDesktop, so that I could teach these discrete codes to my learning remote. So at the moment Im not a happy chappy!

I just confirmed Cammo's experience. My Pioneer LD player took the posted Pronto codes just fine but ALL Sony's are a no go.

Has anyone had success with the Sony discreet codes? What are we doing wrong?

Thanks
Dan

Cammo (and others),

I've had a small breakthrough. While I still don't know why the discreet Pronto codes don't seem to work w/ Omniremote for Sony stuff, here are discreet ANT and Video1 codes for my 32" Sony direct view TV (sorry, don't know the exact model # and it's too damn heavy to look behind).

I was able to grab these from the remote that came w/ my DE-845 receiver.

Hope they help. God knows I feel a little better.

I was having the problems getting discrete codes to work with my Sony TV (model KV-35V35).

Using the web site below, I bought a Radio Shack remote that has a "Magic Key" that allows you to transmit "Advanced Codes". So after setting the Radio Shack remote to the right code for my TV. I was able to press the "Magic Key" (Set up?) and the 3 digit Advance Code for a function and it worked.

Once I figured out which advance code I needed. I trained my Palm Pilot by entering the "Magic Key" and Advance Code.

I'm having the same problem with all my Sony equipment. Pronto Sony discrete codes don't seem to import properly into Ordesktop. I got the RCA-DTC100 dicrete code working, so I know I'm importing properly. I can't get a response from Ordesktop or Pacific Neo-Tek. As far as I'm concerned my $20 to Omniremote and $20 to Ordesktop were a scam. Lesson learned.

Scott, are you saying that the RS remote has dicrete Sony codes built in through this magic button thing?

Alright, finally some action here. ORdesktop didn't screw me, they are, however, making flase claims. Sorry to those that already wasted their money. What's up with these guys, I sent at least 5 e-mails asking for help over the last 3 weeks and I've had no response. Buyer beware, stay away from ORdesktop. In my opinion they are full of false claims and don't care about anything other than getting your money. What other conclusion could one draw?

Okay, no more complainig. Back to work. Yes, Scott is saying you can use the "P" on the RS or "Magic" on the OFA/Cinema to send advanced codes. Go to the site he quoted for all the info. I did the same with a Cinema7, I used the "magic" button followed by the three digit avanced codes to teach the sony descretes for Video1/2/3 and for PowerON and powerOff to my PalmOmniremote and my RCU810. You need to do this once you've found a device code that works with your TV (or whatever). It doesn't have to control more that one or two function but must at least control one. This means it is using the correcy IR format for your device (learn more about this at the site quoted by Scott). E-mail me if you want me to e-mail you my onmiremote.pdb with the learned descretes for Sony. Keep in mind descrete/advanced codes are not gauranteed to work with ALL models of Sony TV's or any other respective Brands/Models.

If anyone has or can learn the code for Harman Kardon AVR80 "direct 6" button in omniremote.pdb please send it to me ...and keep your $20 the h*ll away from ORdesktop (oops, sorry I said no more complaining about the thieves at ORdesktop, oops I did it again... you guys that have already been burned should do more complaining here, maybe they'll perk up and help us).
