Good News! (at least for me it's news)
It seems finally Netremote "IR version" is out!!!
I have Ipaq 3800 series with IR extender and use SW from www.PDAwin.com
Not entierly satisfied with reliability.
This is probably the alternative which everybody awaited(?)

Has anybody tested it yet?
Would love some input

I forgot we can delete these things we write, just fyi, wilkscm and I patched things up, but I had left this forum and only came back to see that my words were a bit harsh.

---------------

But, back to the question at hand. I think girder and net remote have a good thing going. IR Remote does not support my PDA, a Toshiba 2032. Their Net Remote is really cool, and has possibilities of turning a Windows XP Home or Pro Operating system into one that emulates a Windows Media Center PC.

i am a dental technician in the uk nothing to do withsoftware. have purchased the product the pro version check the forum. Tried for over 8 months to make it work bought the red rat 3 at $100 then the usb-uirt at $80 still no joy using the netserv. Did not complain about $29. Just got on with it and found a solution. Put the usb-uirt to good use bought medialobby 2 absolutely brilliant and works! customisation is excellent. Bought a simpad and running Remote control II from wincesoft.de works immediately out of the box. PPC coming soon so i would wait until it is available if you want a good solution because his software is brilliant. i don't own a PPC so i have never tried total remote.

The SW is new and therefore bound to have some bugs, but the main question is to me: does it work with IR extender CF card? Otherwise it's useless to me, as my IPAQ has a too short range without it.

OK,
I'm a little confused.
Netremote has been available long time, but version supporting IR is new.
Netremote was originally meant to connect to PC and steer everything from there.
Now they have a CCF compatible version for PPC. That's where the news is.

I'll try any software before judging. I believe Netremote you speak about is not PPC version?
I'll check out Rem.Contr.II as soon as it comes out! Thanks for the tip.

netremote has been in testing phase for a long time it is only lately it is available for sale. They could not get the ir section to work and asked the developer of remote control II to write the ir function. Remote control II is his own product and in my opinion is very good. i am sure when it comes to ppc version it will be the best.At the moment it is only for Windows CE

Using NR 24-Sept beta right now, with 1.01v direct-IR and it's working fine on my Axim X3.
These guys have a forum in which you can chat with the developers, and they actually do something with your bug info! - sometimes within 24 hours.

Netremote has some intresting suff like showing dvd contents off-the-web automatically on your pda etc., but I just want it for my remote.

It is the only one to date that features repeating buttons for volume, numbers, time entries, not only for hard buttons but for ccf virtual buttons as well!
Be sure to relearn them though inside NR.

The last issue (range) was solved in the 1.01 ir-direct update but I'm sure other guys will still find bugs (as in all software).
I'm happily using it for my AV kit right now!

I must say that I'm quite impress with NetRemote (It is working very well with my Toshiba e755... IR is working reliably up to about 10 ft, although the emitter is not located in a very convenient place and lacks the power of the ones on a regular pronto)... and it's been pretty much plug and play (at least for the initial testing)

No, Netremote doesn't work with any of the current batch of IR extender cards as far as I know. I had a dialogue with Ben over at NetRemote a while back on this same subject (may still be up on their forum). His view was that the current IR cards do not conform to any known standards, and are intended for use with a very limited range of specific applications. He appreciated that not having support would make NetRemote unattractive to existing PDA users who rely on a IR extender, but they had enough on their hands at the time just keeping up with other work. Direct IR was not, and probably is still not their primary direction. I recall at one point that they were interested in support the TR audio thingy but I don't know if that got anywhere.

Hope this helps

Paul
