im looking to buy a loox 420, with replacing my remote controls one of a few reasons for buying. i was wondering what the compatibility is like with Remote Central, and if its not so good, what other pda's offer better compatiblity within the same sort of price range.

I honestly know nothing of the Loox. :/
However, the Dell Axim X3 or X30 offer very good IrDA support, ~25-30 feet, with no addiitonal hardware (not even Total Remote's!). They are quite inexpensive... and ship with a Total Remote demo in the box so you can see why I might favor them. :)
