I have already a O2 xda2, but don't think this will work. On Ebay I see lots of Toshiba ppc's for a very reasonable price for me in the Netherlands. Is Total Remote working good with model E740wifi/E750wifi or with a E330 Toshiba ppc?
Anyone have this working, please reply.

Total Remote works with these Tosh models, and these features:

e3xx - IrDA and audio transmitter
e740 - IrDA and audio transmitter
e750 - IrDA (audio transmitter works poorly compared to older Tosh models)
e800 - IrDA (audio transmitter works poorly compared to older Tosh models)

One assumes the e400 would also be IrDa-only since it is just like a e800.

ALL Tosh units have FANTASTIC IrDA that works over really good distances, so pretty much any Tosh is a good choice.

Tosh obviously thinks so, since they offer a discount coupon for Total Remote in the box with new PPCs. :)

What's the problem with the Wolfson audio codec in the e800 ?

I now have a Tosh e740, but i have to put it 5 cm in front of the tv or vcr. What im doing wrong? Is there a problem sice the e740 has a wifi inside?

You tell me. Is it the same chip they used in the e740 and prior? Those audio systems worked, the new ones that you say are based on a Wolfson codec do not. The nature of the Total Remote signal is precise and pushes and audio system to the edge of typical audio specs. Think of it as the ultimate tool for quantifiying the high-frequency response of an audio system. The only POSSIBLE conclusion that can be drawn is they are using lower quality audio systems now than they used to. I could blather about spectrum analyzers and frequency counters and function generators, but the end result is just a pure, unvarnished fact not open to interpretation. When I say an audio system cannot support Total Remote it is the same thing as saying it lacks adequate high-frequency response to be considered "high fidelity" (20Hz-20KHz ~3db) or it lacks sufficient output amplifiers to generate a decent signal. I have NEVER seen the latter; even Dell Axim X5 and Tosh e800 have powerful output amps, they simply lack high-frequency reproduction.

Now, if you are a mad, mad scientist and Mr. Wizard with a soldering iron and the Digikey catalog, I can throw you a bone for the e800. Feel free to make an audio amp designed to boost +6db (at least) at 19KHz. I honestly do not recall what the signal of the e800 looked like at 19KHz, but I _think_ it was simply severely attenuated, so a "booster" should restore enough signal to work. With some work you could power the whole circuit off the e800's dock connector, or just cheap out and use a 2036 battery. I know for CERTAIN this will not work with an Axim X5 or a Casio E-200. They flatly do not even put out a signal higher than ~12KHz, so there is nothing to boost. Wacky pulse-width modulation.

I cannot imagine! I have never really had a problem with Toshiba's IrDA port. Some of their models, like the e740, usually have range of at least 30 feet. But it does depend a hell of a lot on what kind of signal it is reproducing. The current version of Total Remote cannot understand all types of signals that it could, and we are working on a new version to add much more support, but this doesn't help you now. For the moment you can check to see if this is a problem with ALL devices or just SOME/ONE device, which will narrow it down to a question of code "comprehension".

Have some good news; My audio transmitter arrived today and can say it works with my XDAII !!! think even better than the Tosh.740WiFi. But still busy with it, so keep you all informed in the future!

It works great with the toshiba e335. from 20 to 25 feet away.

Of course that is with IrDA. The audio transmitter should work with many devices out to about 60-70 feet.

Don you were right. i only get about 12 feet with my new h5455. the audio port is on the bottom of the pda. and has a 3.5 mm input. how does this work with the total remote transmitter. i bought the program without the transmitter because i had the tosh. 335. now where can i get the transmitter and how much is it. i also worked all day trying to find how the hard keys work when using a ccf file. i must be thick i read both the total remote guide and the pronto edit guide. I also read your explanation in a thread above. can not figure how to do it. i am using the E335. but don't seem to get the picture. any help will be greatly appreciated. Joe

We have never really sold the transmitter seperately! I will have to ask the marketing and sales managers how they would like to handle "hardware upgrades". I imagine it would be about $10-15, just at a guess. I will make a public announcement once we figure out what we are going to do.


Everything I said in the thread about associating hardware keys with standard skin masks DOES NOT APPLY to CCF mode. Dealing with hardware buttons assignments in CCFs is way beyond my minor skills in ProntoEdit/Tonto. I know that hardware buttons can be assigned in the CCF, but that is about the limit of my knowledge. You might want to throw out a general question about CCF editing and hardware butons to the various experts that lurk on these forums.

I have the Toshiba e740, and I'm getting very poor performance with the audio transmitter. The transmitter has to be aimed directly at the device -- if my aim is even an inch off, there's no response. If my aim is perfect, I can get 6 ft or so, but who wants a remote control that they have to aim perfectly just to change a channel?

Cold I just have a bum unit, or is there a problem with the e740? When I pull the audio transmitter out, I don't hear any of the clicks the FAQ said I should hear. I'd really like to get this working -- Total Remote is an awesome piece of software.

btw -- I emailed your tech support, and have yet to get a response.

Are you SURE you have the output option set to use the audio transmitter and not IrDA?

Definitely. I have it right here, and I've tried it many times on both settings. I had originally installed the demo version of the software - could that be causing the problem?

btw, thanks for replying so quickly. Your presence on this board was one of the reasons I went out and purchased it.

I just tried putting headphones into the jack, and I do hear very loud buzzing/clicking noises when I use Total Remote. But in practice with real-life devices, it still doesn't work well.
