I'm a professional singer, and I'm also a cheapskate. I sing to CD tracks...OK, they're karaoke tracks. I want to be able to perform my act without hiring a sound man to hit Pause and Play on the CD.

My question is this: Is there a remote about the size of a wristwatch or tie-tac, that will just send one or two functions (Pause & Play, or Pause/Play toggled), sends RF (I don't want to have to "point" it), and can learn commands from another remote? Is there another solution that I'm not aware of? Any help appreciated.

Thanks,
==JJS==

You're not likely to find a learning RF remote that meets your specs.

There is a wristwatch that sends IR and is programmable.

In that case, please show me to the nearest Patent Office...

Thanks,

Wait a sec...those little X-10 keyfob remotes are RF...Now, all I need is a way to translate an X-10 RF signal to an IR emitter placed in front of the CD player...Hmmm, seems to me there's a way to do that, too...

You'll have to start with the FCC which will require certification tests which will cost you about $3000.

X10 to IR converter, $119. I think this may work.

You'll also need a way to convert the RF to X-10 powerline commands. You may need a filter to keep the CD player from eating the X-10 PLC commands.
