I hope that you can give me a jump start in figuring out what to get to control my current home theater (Fujistu plasma, Motorola cable box, Harmon Kardon receiver, Panasonic VCR and Panasonic DVD player) and prospective MP3 player (thinking Roku Soundbridge or Turtle Beach Audiotron), all located in one room. For that alone, an IR remote would be fine, BUT I also am wiring the second zone from the receiver to the adjacent room (with no line of sight) so I will want to control everything from that room, too.

An IR repeater should do the trick, BUT it would be most convenient to control the MP3 player using a WiFi PDA. Something like the Dell Axim X3i with built in WiFi would be good. There is a thin web client for the Audiotron, and probably for the Soundbridge, too, and I have WiFi in the house already and a wired Ethernet jack near the a/v equipment.

What I think would be good is the WiFi PDA which could control the MP3 player directly, but what softwre do I use to connect the PDA to the IR emitter in the TV room and what emitter do I get?

X-10's Powermid or any of the other IR extenders (Recotron, LeapFrog, etc.) should work.

The Powermid repeater looks good. Will a Dell Axim X3i work to control my devices (directly and through the repeater)? What software is good for that?

Thoughts on Soundbridge vs. Audiotron?

PDAwin's TV Remote works with the x3i. Reports are that IR range is 10m or more.
