I'd given up in this thread! Thanks for the update. I've got an offer for a cheap LOOX to replace my aging IPAQ

What are you using for your IR extender. I've tried my Electric Dog extender, and it is not being recognised as an expansion pack by the LOOX.

Any ideas?

Yes, give up. As I mentioned in the main Total Remote thread, the CF IR cards out there are not even superficially standards complient. Chances are it is absolutely impossible to get that CF IR card to work in that particular CF slot. :(

Hi all,
Wonder why nobody has thought about the following gadget:
-A stick-on or clamp-on small box which receives the infrared from the pda, amplifies it and resends it on the opposite site thru a reel 920nm hipower ir diode.
I used twin-diode irda receiver/transmitter by Agilent and two hipower (well, high...) IR LEDs in series angled away from each other a bit.
Biggest prob for me is getting it all to look nice and construct a good clamp for the pda...
-Power the thingy by a 3V lithium battery to avoid having to get the power from some defunct cf card
-Like on the German site, but simpler.
-All's needed is someone with a lot of times...
Go ahead and get rich!

Love to Barend, but how to do it so it supports virtually all Pocket PCs AND not look like a hobby project? Since IrDA ports could be theoretically on any of four surfaces (sides) it makes coming up with an elegant solution damn near impossible. We experimented with a "sled" design but it needed to be affixed to the PPCs back using tape, glue, velcro, whatever, and that just massively assaults our delicate sensibilities. :)

Also, what would you want to pay for it? Adding a LiIon cell costs a ton, not just in the most expensive conventional battery technology readily available, but also in monitoring/charging circuitry (way harder than ANY other battery technology).

So, in short, it would look ugly and cost a mint. Sound good? Should I put you down for a pre-order? ;)

Barend: Have a look here [Link: smarthome.com]

Its IR-RF-IR but does what you are looking for. Like Don said it's ugly though.
