I am contemplating buying a PDA to control my predominatly Sony separates system. If you are using
an Ipaq 2210 to control your system in this manner let me know what the pitfalls of this type of control are. Should it be PDA or dedicated learning remote.
Thanks in anticipation.

Forgot to add, shoul it be the Ipaq 2210 with Nevo built in or other software, tell me what you think is the better software.

Confused by too much technology.

Well. Just got my Ipaq yesterday. Lovely PDA apart from the mild electric shocks I keep getting from it while the battery is loading ;)

So. Like I said, it's a lovely PDA, but I'm kind of disappointed on its performance as a RC. Compared to my OFA its IR is not as powerful. It's designed for PDA use, not RC'ing. Therefore it don't fit nicely to your hand. And it's not bulky enough to dare to leave it lying around in the living room. I'm afraid of dropping it because it would surely destroy the LCD.

Nevo is beautiful and user friendly software, if your a basic user with basic equipment. There's no modding possibilities whatsoever, so power users will be disappointed. You can't edit almost anything and everything has to be set up through some "Wizards".

For example there's no cure for my panasonic TV which requires long button press to power on. It works if you turn the TV on separately, but it's impossible to turn it on with a macro, because long button presses don't work in macros.

If you want a RC you're better off with pronto etc. But of course there's loads of other cool things you can do with PDA. As a PDA 2210 is great.

I have various remotes, RC 5000,5200 & 9200, I have to say that the 2210 used in conjunction with Pdawin software does a superb job.
I have found that the 2210 works up to 20ft.
The colour screen is infinitely better than the colour Marantz/Pronto remotes.
The build quality is so much more superior to that of the Marantz.
If you factor in the fact, that the cost is 1/3rd and that you have a full funtioning PDA thrown in for free, there seems little to touch thae 2210 as a great value for money colour remote.
Regards from the UK
