I have got Total Remote working pretty well with all my equipment using the built in IRDA of my iPaq 3630 with PPC2002 and EUU3 installed. Getting pretty amazing range also - about 4/5 metres but with a very narrow transmitter beam - my aim has to be spot on for it to work!

But I am having a problem getting the included transmitter module to work completely - it will not work with a Motorola cable box I have (this works OK with the internal IRDA). Nothing I try seems to make a difference. I am thinking about messing around with the settings under "Device Properties" but do not know what impact they may have. Can anyone shed any light on how these settings work or provide me with some ideas I might try.

Thanks in advance.

Mark,

Sorry for the slim documentation on the subject of the advanced options now available on the Properties page. It is a pretty detailed subject that REALLY needs lots of pictures to understand readily, but here's the abridged version.

Repeat is fairly simple.

Timing factor is the bugger. Put really, really simply this number tends to increase and decrease the signal length by really, really small amounts. The difference between 1.02 and 1.03 is almost 1 millisecond; to put this in perspective some infrared commands are only a few milliseconds long! Use lots of decimal places when tweaking this; 1.027 is my favorite value for my Sony DVD player. Unfortunately for all'yall, I have lab equipment like an oscilloscope to measure signals exactly so I can tell when the magic number is right. YMMV. Experiment heavily. BTW, this applies ONLY to audio transmission, not IrDA which is absolutely time-accurate.

"Warm-up" is also just for the audio transmitter. Long story short; some PPCs need a few milliseconds to power up the audio system, and this gives them that time. Most modern PPCs don't need this.

Good luck!
