I'm not at the running round in cirles screaming stage yet :)

After a quick look I can not see the 'RCDEV' file - where should I be looking.

The only other problem is I have run out of the software evaluation period. Can you confirm I should be able to use the software with the Axim X30 without to much trouble? If so I'll register and pay my dollars in the hope I will get it working in the future.

Hmm. I'm afraid my only suggestion is to run
around the room in a tight circular pattern screaming
out warnings of the end-times, but that doesn't
seem very useful in solving your problem. ;)

Yeah, very funny, wonder why nobody notices the still untackled issue of the repeating commands, and the complete uselessness of the audio plugin.

The RCDEV files are the device configuration files generated by Total Remote, and should be found in a subdirectory called DeviceFiles off of the main Total Remote directory. On a default install this would be Program Files/Total Remote/DeviceFiles.

Yes, the X30 is an extremely good platform for Total Remote. It cannot use the audio transmitter due to limitations of the X30's audio hardware, but it had incredibly strong IrDA output and has been tested to work over 40 feet.

Don,
Looking for some ideas, I'm using an Axium X3i which looked to to be not only compatable but also fit my other needs (wireless)..
I do a bit of automation (Stargate, Caddx..) and at the moment i'm trying to just integrate the IR remotes... will blow other things up later....
however I'm having a bear of a time getting the axium to learn the ir codes for a few components.. the biggest pita is my Pioneer TV.. ... I am familiar with the pronto.. just don't like it.. but is there any way to use the CCF info outside the CCF...
in otherwords... i create/download/beg for/borrow a ccf that contains accurate codes for my PITA tv... can i then create a entry in TR's database using the descrete codes instead of learning... some how i find cutting and pasting easier than learning codes..
i know this might go beyond normal user stuff but .. hey what is normal anyway...
thanks in advance...
TechToy

also, i did upgrade the rom version on the x3i and that seemed to help the other units i have but not my PITA tv...

hi there, I have just purchased totalremote after playing with your demo version. I have received my box and the audio IR thingy.

I am having problems and am unable to use any macros as they seem to continually repeat requiring me to soft reset my pda! I gather this was a problem but thought it was surely fixed in this latest version???

unfortunately, the audio thingy does not work with my PACE NTL digital box, but does work with my TV/DVD etc ?? not quite sure why, but presumably something to do with the signal type?

also, this version of total remote does not seem to be able to use my HP 2210's CIR hardware (just doesnt work with that option selected) and range is very poor using IRDA compared to nevo with CIR. It does seem, however to prefer my old 3630s irda on which the range is pretty good at 2-3m compared to the 2210s of only 0.5m or so!

Any ideas when these "glitches" are due to be fixed? Unfortunately, nevo is no good for me as it doesnt seem to support "second signals" which my LG TV needs so I seem to be snookered until totalremote gets updated?

here's hoping for some bug fixes.....

also, does anyone know why the audio adapter thingy I received doesn't look like the one in the photos or on the box??? it is narrow at the base and mushrooms out at the end to accomodate the IR bulbs/leds.

It just looks much more of a stuck on adapter than the one in the pictures?? can I have it swapped? also it does not properly seat itself in the socket, seems 0.25-0.5mm too long?

I used ProntoGen to make a master list of my CD's and tracks in the .ccf format. I just transferred the ccf to my iPAQ H3955 and got it to come up with TotalRemote on my first try! My question is that I can not page up or down when I am on page 1/5 etc. On my pronto there is a soft key on the screen that does not appear when I transfer the ccf to the TotalRemote program. I have also looked to see if I could assign the scrolling to a hard key on the PDA since the four soft tabs on the bottom of the PDA screen are blank. Any guidance would be appreciated. Also, what other programs are you all using to run a CD Jukebox (sony) with TotalRemote, I would love to be able to do an album cover thing and do not know where to start.

Thanks

The paging up and down is an old problem that I raised with Don many moons ago. I thought it was going to be included in a subsequent release, but as I havn't done anything with TR for a while, I hadn't followed it up. You could always break them up into individual devices, with manual links, but it kind of defeats the object of the exercise.

Apologies for this very short reply, but there is no way currently to scrap codes off a CCF and get it into Total Remote's native mode. If we ever create a desktop editor, ala ProntoEdit, this will doubtless be a feature. It isn't impossible, we just haven't done it and do not have it on our extremely full development plate.

Again, excuse the super-brief reply.

We thought it was fixed too! We are looking into it, but it seems it does not affect all users (I was unable to cause the error in one quick test just now).

unfortunately, the audio thingy does not work
with my PACE NTL digital box, but does work with
my TV/DVD etc ?? not quite sure why, but presumably

You are likely correct, it may be a protocol issue. Lacking a PACE cable box there won't be much testing I can do, but if you would like to send us your RCDEV file(s) I can do some basic analysis and see if the signals "look right".

also, this version of total remote does not seem
to be able to use my HP 2210's CIR hardware (just

Again, the iPaq CIR issue appears to affect different users in different ways. I was able to verify that my test 22xx is using the CIR port, but I have heard from other users that it isn't working for them. I honestly suspect we messed this up (hacking the Nevo LED and ASIC is not trivial), so I will do some more research.

Any ideas when these "glitches" are due to be
fixed? Unfortunately, nevo is no good for me as
it doesnt seem to support "second signals" which
my LG TV needs so I seem to be snookered until
totalremote gets updated?

We are deep into v3.0 of Total Remote, but due to other responsibilities I have not been able to spend much time on it lately. I will try to keep everyone apprised.

The old transmitter design would not fit the absurdly recessed headphone jack of the iPaq 54xx and 55xx, so we changed to this new "mushroom" design across the board.

It just looks much more of a stuck on adapter
than the one in the pictures?? can I have it swapped?

It does seat correctly, but there is a small collar of metal that is typically plainly visible even when the transmitter is well-seated. This is just a detail of the connector and does not affect function at all. The old transmitter design has been discontinued, so I do not think you can obtain the old one any longer.

SWEET!

The blank on-screen buttons at the bottom correspond to functions predefined in your CCF, and can be edited from ProntoEdit/Tonto. Also, the D-Pad should be mapped to the same functions as the D-Pad on a Pronto, so again just about anything should be possible from within a CCF editor.

I would love to be able
to do an album cover thing and do not know where
to start.

Wouldn't this be done in a way similar to CCFs that have television station icons for buttons? Say a 3x3 matrix of covers per screen; click on one and it begins to play?

Hi Don,

A quick comment and a question. After browsing this forum for several weeks I took your advice and bought an Axim 3i and saved several hundred dollars off the pronto I was eyeing. I've managed to succesfully create a CCF (with cudos going to the kind souls who posted their CCFs and saved me countless hours) for use with TR. I've managed to get all of my devices working except for my Toshiba 30HF84 TV (remote CT-90158). No matter what I try, the sampling just won't work for me.

However, when I use the native mode for Toshiba televisions included with TR it works perfectly.

My question is how do I get the IR codes imbeded in the toshiba rcdev file into my CCF?

Is there an easy way to cut and paste the codes from the RCDEV into my CCF? What programs do I need to open the rcdev file?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can profer,

James
