Hmmm..it's been quiet around here for the past few weeks. Seems everyone is contented with the latest version of TR2. Any word on the V3.0???

_I_ am not satisfied, but I suppose I never will be as the creator. :)

v3.0 rapidly became too ambitious, and there are a couple of critical updates that need to come out sooner than later, so I have decided to hold off on the release of v2.2, which is intended to be the last of the v2.0 versions. The big change is a new way of handling IR signals for better compatibility, support for SE with landscape and VGA modes, better implementation of carrier simulation when transmitting via IrDA which means better range and reliability, and a couple other small things. To be honest it is hard to keep all the active changes straight in my head, and it is hard to accurately determine when an untested and unreleased feature can be made ready.

I don't even wanna talk about v3.0 right now. v2.2 is taking quite a bit longer than expected, due to several specific issues we had to deal with for one of the Pocket PC vendor's unreleased PPCs. Fortunately, what is good for them is good for all of us, but it royally screws up my development schedule.

Beta testers, prepare for the next major beta. Any registered customer with a valid registration code is welcome to join the beta testing program by dropping a line to trbeta_at_griffintechnology_dotcom and stating you wanna help with the testing.

I'm wondering if the software is supported by the new HPs such as the rx3115? Also, is the company going to continue support for it... I heard it was up in the air via a very direct source.

Hi, god and overlord of Total Remote here...

We do not own any 3115 iPaqs, so we have not internally verified that they are 100% compatible. If anyone has used Total Remote with an iPaq rx31xx, 63xx, 41xx or 43xx I would love to hear about it. Anecdotally I have heard from 41xx and 43xx users who have no problem, but again this isn't the same thing as me personally testing it.

Let me be VERY VERY VERY clear about the question of Total Remote being supported; we are not selling Total Remote to any rumored third-party, we are continuing development (v2.2 may have been finished today!), we have a development roadmap that takes us through the end of the year (v3.0), and we are making marketing and sales plans that extend well into next year. We are not going anywhere. Since one of my leading competitors is nigh-legendary for complete lack of support and ongoing development I am very sensitive to the idea that we might do the same.

No chance. We are in this for the long haul. :)

The reason I asked was because I called the company to see if the rx3115 was supported and the first thing out of his mouth was... you should know the product is sort of on hold... we don't know what will be happening. The second was we get around one call a month about it and no one in support really knows anything about it and it's really not worth training them.

Hmm.

A quick chat with the technical support supervisor wasn't terribly revealing. He believed that tech support was keeping up with Total Remote, and certainly did not authorize anyone to tell our customers that we were bailing out! I am going to forward him the two or three really bad comments I have seen in the last couple of weeks, and he will deal with his people.

Meanwhile, to re-emphasise, Total Remote development continues and we are not going away. Apologies to my leading competitors. ;)

For those seeking to buy Total Remote in the UK check Stormfrontdirect. Their price is £17.95 + 0.01 postage + VAT. I ordered it yesterday morning (Thu), they confirmed the order by email within minutes and later in the day emailed me to advise that they had despatched it. It arrived this morning by Recorded Delivery. I'm impressed.

I'm looking forward to spending the weekend playing with TR on my Loox 600.

YO D00DZ!

Total Remote v2.2.577 is now out! Go! Go get it NOW!!

[Link: griffintechnology.com]

For the first time ever I have included a "changelog" file to outline some of the major and minor changes. Here's the poop:

----------------
New:
RC5 signal support.

POI:
CCF mode has been sped up considerably.
IRDB signals are always played three times (3 bursts, "Sony" style).
Learning mode can no longer be interrupted by system events, which caused bit errors.
PXA277 compatibility added.
Old assumptions about internal CPU frequency have been updated.
IrDA transmission now has a carrier frequency of approximately 40KHz.

Bugs squashed:
Device tree sometimes pointed by an offset of 1.
Sampling length error on ARM SA1110 fixed.

...Not that anyone reads changelogs. ;)
---------------------

The innocently named "RC5 support" is actually a lot more subtle; we GUTTED the IR handling core and rewrote it to support more signal types, the most common and well-known of which is RC5. Ever use Total Remote with a cable box you couldn't get working? Give it a shot!

"POI" stands for "Points Of Interest", which I though was more accurate than "Feature" or "Tweak" or whatever. The POI section is where I will mention important items that are so subtle that most people wouldn't notice or care, but COULD be of critical importance to some people if they are having a related problem.

I also failed to document that v2.2.577 supports portrait AND landscape modes under 2003SE. Kind of a minor point, but cool.

Now everyone can start badgering me about v3.0 ;)

I did and my totally unfair 5 minute review is *thumbs down*

6 months ago when I last tested this, my Yamaha receiver and Xbox didn't like what was coming out of axim x3i+TR combination. With this version they flat out refuse any signals (but TV & VCR work fine).

The exact same CCF works in both PDAwin and the new Netremote IR.

I'm not saying don't buy Total remote - Just make sure it works for you first!

Would you mind listing the make and model of your gear? I am curious which ones work and which ones don't.

Even better! Could I get a copy of the CCF? You can send it to the TRBeta guys at trbeta_at_griffintechnology_dotcom. You are now the second person to mention lack of compatibility with the XBox remote, and one of our people here has one, so I will try to prevail upon him to test it for me.

Well, hjortskov was kind enough to send me his CCF, and a quick glance at the codes didn't reveal any abnormalities, but thanks to the fact that he provided me with make and model of all the pieces in his CCF I can use a universal remote to directly compare the signals.

Thanks hjortskov, you have always been very helpful!

Don

I've downloaded ver 2.2.577 and loaded it onto my Axim x30. Unfortunately I'm having problems with a macro I have recorded in native mode.

While it executes correctly (I still need to fine tune the timing) it starts looping continuously.

I have checked the pdf file and the site here but I can't find any references to this sort of problem. I assume I am seeing an odd symptom of not having done something correctly - any suggestions?

Hmm. I'm afraid my only suggestion is to run around the room in a tight circular pattern screaming out warnings of the end-times, but that doesn't seem very useful in solving your problem. ;)

Can you send the RCDEV file to the TRBeta team at trbeta_at_griffintechnology_dotcom? I think it might help if we analyze it and see if there is an abnormality in the file.
