I keep reading on here how peeps are using an Axim that has consumer infra red. What model? I know you can purchase the card to make it work but I've read several places about an Axim that has it built in. Is it in a different country than USA only?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

PS.

I contacted a dood at DELL and asked him if he knew about it. First of all I could barely understand him.(Why do they hire people who can't speek english well to work in customer care?) Oh well:-)

Thanks,

Dante

All of the Dell Axim X3 models have Consumer IR, as well as IrDA. I tested it up to about 20 feet (with PDAwin TV Remote Controller), but I think it will probably reach much further. That was as far as I could back up in my small apartment. :)

The Dell Axim X5 does NOT have Consumer IR, and needs an CompactFlash IR Extender in order to be used as a remote. You can pick those up from both UltraMote and Laser. Keep in mind though, that with the UltraMote extender, you have to purchase the UltraMote software in order to buy the extender. Testing the UltraMote with PDAwin was a success though, so you should be able to use it with any remote program that supports CF extenders.

NONE of the Dell Axims have "consumer IR", they just have extremely powerful IrDA ports.
