I am curious as to how many people are using the Omniremote software or interested enough to care about when the next version of Omniremote is released.
The release of this much improved version was supposed to take place in the summer of 1999.
My idea is for everybody that is interested to e-mail the people at pacific neo-tek within the next week or so to let them know that they are disappointed in the year and a half delay in the release of Omniremote 1.2

Dan, as you know, I am an OR supporter, I just can't get used to a touchscreen remote. But, I am more than willing to email PacificNeotek to help out. I still think OR, especially when combined with ORD, is a great product.

[email protected] is the email address.

I've also emailed a 2 or 3 times to have Remote Central as a link on their site, for which I have received replies, telling me that they will look into it. That might be something to include in your emails. The more people directed to the RC PDA forum, the more help and support for OR/ORD will be available.

Greg :-)

P.S. Even if there aren't a whole lot who use it right now who frequent RC, emailing PacificNeotek and trying to get a link can help promote the user interraction. There have been thousands and thousands of downloads of the product, so there are many who use it. We just need to get them coming here for info interchange!!! :-)

Excellent idea.Will do.
As a side note I was wondering if you the used the ir repeater that attaches directly to the Palm when you tried using your Palm as a URC?
Without this I don't I would care for touchscreen remotes either.
Trying to aim a remote without the tactile feel of buttons is too much of a hassle.

No, I bought the Palm Pilot with the 2mb upgrade, which I was told had the same strength as the IR extender. The strength was okay, just not the dispersion.

Or are you referring to the repeater that comes in two pieces. One near your Palm and then the IR sender near your equipment. I haven't tried that either.

I did however see a Pronto for the first time a few days ago. Wow, you can point that thing anywhere. But, still, very pricey!!!

Greg :-)

PEOPLE: Email PacificNeotek at the address above. Put a little pressure for version 1.2, so we can see what some of those programmers out there can do with the part that allows you to integrate the software with other software!!!

And mention your desire to have a link to Remote Central on their site!!!

:-)

This is the ir repeater I was referring to.

This to me is what really makes this bird fly.

I found a site where you can download Omniremote that also has an area where people can post a short review of the Omniremote software.
I posted a short review awhile back, pretty much praising the software.
I think this would be a good place for people who have been using Omniremote to let the people who are thinking about purchasing Omniremote know that there is a much improved version that has been sitting on the shelve for over a year.
I think this would really get their attention if prospective customers were requesting version 1.2.
They have our money already, when it starts affecting future income I think you will see some action.
I posted a 2nd review today with this added information. It takes a few days for a new review to show up on the website.
The more people that post similar reviews on this subject, the greater the impact it will have.
Judging from the number of downloads listed for each product this site has a HUGE following.
The site is [Link: palmgear.com]

Hi,

I've been trying to get in touch with the people at PacificNeotek since forever and never get any response!

All I'm trying to find out is if my Palm VIIx (which was given to me as a useless gift until I found out that I could possibly use it as a remote) is compatible with their software or not! They mention that the Palm VII is compatible but make no mention of the Palm VIIx. And it doesn't seem like it works. I've got the same OS (I believe 3.5) as a friend of mine who has the Palm Vx. In fact I beamed the Omniremote software from my Palm to hers and she was able to use the software to train while I wasn't!

Does anyone know if the software will work with the Palm VIIx or not? I'd really like to get SOMETHING (I mean if PacificNeotek is not going to come out with their new software any time soon) in terms of a Universal IR Learning Remote such as the Pronto or what Omniremote says it can do...

Thanks in advance!

Albert,

You can download the trial version of OmniRemote to test if it works with your device. It is free to download, but only works with the "TV" category -- which you could reprogram for any device you have to test it.
