Will the Ultramote extender (PDA-IR module) and/or the Electric Dog IR-module work on a Ipaq 5550 ?

I know, that only the Ipaq 3xxx-series is listed as being supported with these modules, but it might work anyway ?!?

Do you have a 5550?

If so, and you need a remote extender, it would indicate that the IR range is very poor?

have you been able to compare it to anything with NEVO on? HP tell me that the IR hardware in the 5450/5550 is the same? do you know if this is so?, If true, it must mean that this NEVO program allows the IR unit to TX at a higher power.

Am I making sence so far? If so, is it possible, or is there any software out there that also enables the higher IR output on a non NEVO machine?. If we could find this out, would save you buying an IR extender and would solve the problem i have of which machine to buy

Cheers

I currently have an Ipaq 3970 and want to upgrade to a 5550. But I know this for a fact:

1) The 5550 does NOT have a Consumer IR - only an IrDA. Thus the 5550 has very poor IR-performance and does not come with the Nevo software (which isn't very impressive anyway). This is because HP seems to consider the 5550 to be a "business-model". The predecessor - 5450 - did however have a CIR and Nevo.

So the only way that the Ipaq 5550 will work as a REALLY GOOD remote is to use PDAWin and the Electric Dog extender (when avaliable) or the Ultramote Extender. But will it work in the new HP550 with Windows Mobile 2003 (PPC 2003) ????

2) I'm not very impressed with the CIR of my current 3970, which is the same hardware found in the new consumer 2210 models, etc. It has good range, but is very directional. So you have to point the PDA excactly at the device yoy want to control. This is not good, if you use macros to control mutiple devices at once.

If however, that the PDAWin and a CF-slot IR-extender can - or at some point in the future will - work in the Ipaq 5550, then this would make a "killer" PDA/Remote ;)

Anyony got some info on this compatability issue ?
