I posted this also in the Pronto forum just to get both sides of opinions!

I've been bitten by the color bug! I want to upgrade my trusty TSU2000 to a color model. I was almost going to get a Pronto Pro until I found out about the PDA options. Is there anything that I will miss out on by going with a PDA? The cheapest I could find a Pronto Pro for is $415 for a refurb, and a new Dell Axim is $199 plus the $50-75 for an ir extender/software. I love the Pronto, but with a new model on the horizon (7000), I'm having a hard time justifying the Pro purchase vs. saving a couple hundred dollars for the same thing! Any info/help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there,

I have had 2 BW Prontos a ProntoPro & 2 iPaqs running PDAWin. I really liked the BW Pronto, it felt good in the hand & seemed to be well made. The raised buttons were good.

The ProntoPro was the worst purchase that I have made in recent years. The buttons were flimsy, the screen was poor & 'leaked color", by way of dark lines on certain screens. It felt like a cheap piece of plastic.

The iPaqs were fantastic, the screens were brilliant & they could be used for much more than just a remote. The cost is also better. With a 3900 or 5400 series you do not really require an extender as the bulit in Nevo IR seems to be adequate after realising that the newer version of the software utilises the IR. I was previously using the Electric Dog IR extender.

I am not really sure about the Dell unit but I hope that my opinion with the iPaq will help you. Buy the PDA you won't regret the decision.

Thanks for the advice! I went ahead and ordered the Dell Axim. I figured even if I hate it as a remote (which I don't think I will), like you said, I can use it for so much more as well! I'll keep everyone posted once I get it!

Don't forget to buy the ir extender from ultra remote! I understand the Axim will do to well without it?
Good thing the Axim has a CF slot ready.
Had you bought an IPAQ you would need a accessory sleeve (bulgy) to be able to put in the ir extender.

I won't! I tried to order it when I ordered the Axim, but apparently you need a code from the software to get the extender, but I can't load the software because I don't have the PDA yet!
