Hello !

Does anyone have experience using the built-in IR in the new ipaq 2210? I am shopping for a PDA that can double as a universal remote. For the ipaq 2210, do you need to buy a compact-flash ir booster, like PDA-ir, or will the native IR be adeqaute?
I am not far from my devices, only about 10'. In fact, i am concerned that the left-right IR spread may not be adequate simply because i am TOO close, and the beam will be too focused. Will this be an issues (some of my AV devices are about 4-5' apart)?
Lastly, will PDA-win work in place of Nevo on this PDA? Other that the CCF compatibility, does it offer anything else Nevo doesn't?

Thanks !

I don't have any hands on experience with the 2210,but based on what I've read the native ir strength is good up to 25 feet, but more directional then most remote controls.
According to the information at the PDAWIN website the native ir will work with the PDAWIN software,so you should be able to get by without a ir booster card.
The PDAWIN software allows you to work with Pronto EDIT,which has many more features then the NEVO software.

I just got a 2215 today with high hopes... They were dashed pretty quickly, unfortunately.

I've got an unusual setup -- A very large Mitsubishi TV that has a built in IR repeater. All the equipment is in 2 cabinets on each side of the TV -- about 14 feet apart.

I sit about 12 feet from the TV, and the PDA won't reach it. If I'm very close (6 feet or so), it works -- but it (the TV) won't repeat the signal to the other equipment.

The remote is extremely directional, and is basically useless in my situation. Nevo seems a little better than PDAwin on distance (I have no idea why -- except maybe the built in Nevo codes are cleaner than my captured ones).

I'm extremely disappointed.

Now, does anyone know if any of the IR extenders work on the iPaq 2210/2215?

Funny but I'm not having any real problem with range with the 2215/PDAwin, my problem is getting the right codes into it.

The learning process in ccf mode seems to be quite flaky.

Those devices that do work seem to work fine from 15-16 ft.

I will say that for other devices incl a second satellite recvr that are wired through Xantech IP repeaters don't work, so that may be your problem. The signal being borderline or too noisy for the IR repeater to catch.

Seems to me though to be a code problem rather than IR sig strength or directionality.

I'm giving this a few more goes then dumping it.

Support (lack of) is obviously the achilles heel of PDA-based solutions right now. PDAwin is completely incommunicado.

Maybe the variability we are seeing in the range of the ipaq native IR has to do with the accurary that component IR codes are programmed. IE if inaccurate or slightly off IR frequencies are "learned" or imprecise CCFs, the IR needs to be closer to be effective?
