Hi there,
I have been using an iPaq H3970 with PDA Win 5.5 & the electric dog IR extender. It works like a dream...However my iPaq had a fault & had to be returned. HP lost my iPaq!!! Nice one I am really happy.
I may be able to get a 5550 as a replacement but I have heard that it is not compatable with PDA Win 5.5 & the electric dog IR extender. Is this correct & if it does work with the software is the IR range limited?
Last question, are there plans for it to be supported in the future???
I have only hours to make a decision on if I should get the new model. I NEED YOUR INPUT.....FAST!!!

The 5550 does NOT have Nevo (or consumer IR) therefore it will have to used with a CF-IR card (when they solve compatability problems).
If you can get a 5450, that would be a better solution.

Thanks for the FAST reply..Are you suggesting the 5450 purely because it contains Nevo (if it does, I don't know) or because it works with the PDA Win software & orthe Electric Dog extender????

Yes, I suggested the 5450 because it contains Nevo. As of the latest versions, the PDAWin software can use the Nevo IR transmitter negating the need for an add-on CF card. However, you say you had a 3970 which has Nevo - did you ever try to use builtin IR transmitter? I tested v5.2 on a 3970 and it APPEARED to work i.e. use the Nevo hardware.
As far as compatibility goes, I'm not sure how the new generation of IPAQs work with PDAWin's software as I haven't tested them myself. The 5550 uses the PPC2003 OS which may cause problems right away - the 5450 uses the older PPC2002 OS which *may* be more compatible.
Personally, I would go for the 5450 if I had to choose. If you don't need all the wireless/bluetooth frippery, the new 2210 has a CF2 slot built-in which might be the best choice for remote-control use if the Nevo route doesn't work out.
Ultimately, my overall experience of this is limited - sorry, that I can't give any more "real world" info from actually using these things.

Hi,
thanks for that. I think that the nevo IR emitter works with the PDA Win software. I discovered this by mistake. Can anyone confirm this?

Has anyone out there tried using the 5550 as a remote? I'm also interested in this piece of kit, but the remote function is important.
