Hey, people! We lobbied for this forum for a long time, and Daniel was nice enough to spend the time to set it up for us!

Where are you?

If you don't have a question, at least post your reviews or info you learned that might help other people using PDA's!!!

Don't assume that because you picked up something while learning to program your PDA that others have too!!!

SHARE!!!

Let's go, guys!!! Post, post, post! Share, share, share!!!

Greg :-)

I say.... Some things just die from their own lack of momentum. Let it die if it wants to. It's not a failure... it's a "fine tuning".

I think the problem is lack of innovation. Seems to me like there was a spike when ORDesktop came out and then things died back down again. I'm not sure this forum has the user base of something like the Pronto to drive it, but I'll be when the next version of OmniRemote comes out or there's an update to ORDesktop things will pick up again. Anyone have any idea when that will be by the way?

O.K. Greg
Let's see what you done with your Palm and Omniremote software.
Why don't you post your pdb.file on Dale's sight?

To be honest I am not sure if your really into it,or just being the man for all forums.

Mr. Dan K.: For one thing, I champion the PalmOS/OmniRemote/ORDesktop combination, because I saw and still see a lot of potential in it. And I helped beta test ORDesktop for Peter S, and... by the way... bought 2 Palm Pilots to do the testing with. However, as much as I have tried, I have not been able to get used to a touchscreen remote. That does not mean that I think the software or hardware is anything less than I have ever thought it was. Read my posts. I still believe everything I have put in them. And am still willing to help those who do like touchscreens, if I can.

I can help you install a winch or replace the plugs on your truck. That doesn't mean I like driving a truck or would buy one. But, I can still see the value of driving/owning a truck.

And what exactly is your implication when you say: "To be honest I am not sure if your really into it,or just being the man for all forums."
"JUST MY 2 BITS."

I am on this site to try and help everyone I can. Have you picked one forum on this site and decided that you will only try and be helpful in that one forum?

And, oh yeah, thanks for borrowing my "JUST MY 2 BITS" thing. No, I didn't invent it, but very good use of sarcasm there, Dan. I appreciate it! I bow to you!

Any particular reason why you felt you had to add that sarcasm to this post. Did I dis you in another thread or what?

Talk to me........

Oh yes...... I just noticed a deal on Prontos from mercata.com posted on another site. I went to the Pronto forum on this site, but it had already been noted.

Had I been the first to post it, would I have been inappropriately "the man for all forums?"........ seeing as how I have never had a Pronto..... never even seen one. Should I stay out of the Pronto forum?

- Greg

Yeah, I know people, I could have done this via email, but I'm pi**ed off! The post was made in public, it deserves a reply in public!

Oh no!!! I was just over at Peter's ORDesktop site, and noticed what might be a problem with a link on the site. I emailed him about it. Should I not have? Will I be accused of being the "man for all sites?"

I am new to both the idea of using my Palm V to control all of my AV equipment, and this forum. Looks like I picked a good time to drop in. Hello everyone. I downloaded the OmniRemote trial and the ordesktop trial and so far I have managed to train my Palm to control my TV's on/off function, VOL up/down, and MUTE, with three large thumbsize buttons that work great inside of 5 feet or so from the screen. I guess thats about as far as i can go without purchasing both pieces of software. I am curious...I have a DVD changer, a Dolby surround reciever, a VCR, a TV and a digital cable box to control. Will I really be able to control them all from the Palm? Also - can I create a hot key or a macro that will turn all of my devices on / off, by pressing one button or sliding my finger up the touchpad...Or am I on the wrong track and would be better served if I bought a pronto? Any thoughts?

Derek: There is no comparison with the Pronto... it is a dedicated Universal Remote Control. But the OmniRemote/ORDesktop combination is highly functional and also allows you to have other things on your remote.

And with OmniRemote 2 coming out soon, there is a programmers interface that will allow programmers to add functionality to the remote software that is not doable on any other remote. Possibly, tying in with Databases, or wireless TV listing updates, etc. Could be endless.

And yes, you will be able to control all of your devices, providing they use IR frequencies that are in OmniRemotes range, which is a pretty standard range.

And yes, it supports macros for turning multiple piece of equipment on and off.

The only thing that the actual software will not do is increase your range. You will need an IR strengthener or an IR repeater.

Here are the links you should be investigating:

This is a very long one, but well worth reading in its entirety.

Dan! Thank you for that apology!

The whole Home Theater thing is of interest to me, and if I can help, I like to!!! I follow all of the forums, with the exception of the Pronto. And if I see something on another forum which can answer a question someone has asked, I like to pass on the info!

But, I appreciate your reply!

You boys are so feisty. I can't help but giggle at all the bickering. We're all biased by our own cool stuff. Can't we just leave it at that? I suppose you want to know my side. I just recently purchased a palm IIIxe. I haven't tried any of the other things (like the covetable pronot) so I won't say anything negative about them. I do love my palm, though. So much new software out and about, and for free! (kind of) Um, so this remote control thing is grand (since my roommate accidentally threw away the CD remote. I tried to go to Walmart and program my palm from the display, but they didn't have my system anymore. I'm sorry, now, that I bought my epuipment there, but I was young and didn't understand such things yet. But, I digress, the point is...uh, I don't remember. Stop bickering and help one another. :)
