Has anyone heard of this software?

Obviously someone must have since there have been almost 40,000 downloads.

If you have, can you comment on its usefulness?

I just downloaded this and tried it out. It works great, but has some big drawbacks. I have to say it looked fantastic on my Zire 71 in 320x320 hi-res. Nevertheless, it lacks what I think are some necessary pieces. First, you can't create or rename buttons or edit layouts. Most devices fill two screens, and you have two switch between the two screens to execute your commands. Second, there's no macros! Surely, this has to be an upcoming feature. What's the point without this?

Anyway, it's a good start, just has a ways to go before being able to replace any decent learning remote. I'm not paying for the full version until they add more features.
Holly.

I too have just downloaded it. Only the trial version, but it certainly is far more capable than PDA Win TV remote controller when it comes to learning and replaying codes.
I have tried two devices, a Mission CD player and Grundig TV. It learns the codes with no problem and replays them, excuting the correct commands on the Tv and CD player. This is something that TV remote controller from PDA Win has consistantly been unable to achieve.

If you are not interested in creating your own screens, graphics, macros etc and just want the basic functionality of a learning remote, without having to delve into manual hex coding of commands and learning IR protocols (the only way I could get the PDA win software to do anything), then this is the one to go for. If you enjoy tinkering with the thing for hours on end to get it to do one useful thing, then go for PDA win, it is far more powerful, but you have to be prepared to spend weeks and months of work to get it to perform.

Greetings from Novii!

We are indeed working now on implementing macros and user-customized screen options. Somewhere around the New Year, we will release a greatly improved version of NoviiRemote with macros support and options for customizing the interface.

We're grateful for your interest and hope you will try our remote control software!

Thanks for the reply Geoff, If you respond to customer e-mails like this reply on the forum, then keep up the good work. It does not seem possible to get any form of response from PDA Win regarding questions with TV Remote.

Cheers
look forward to the New Year release.
ps

Probably too late, but if the prog could make use of ccf files, as used by ProntoPro/pronto etc. then I believe there would be a greater uptake of your product,

Neil

I just purchased Noviiremote and (obviously) I like it. The learning function is really impressive. It just works, this is the core of the app and I give it high marks here. And while I'd like to have the ability to customize the button layouts I must admit the pre-programmed layouts are, for the most part, really well done. My wish list...

1. Macros
2. Support for imported Pronto CCF files
3. Ability to customize the layout

The ccf import is primarily so I can import discrete codes... I'd love to be able to setup a macro that turns on all of our TV's using discrete on, likewise for discrete off, discrete inputs, etc.

The following are purely selfish request as I don't know how many other people would benefit. If these aren't too much work I'd love to see them added...

I use my PDA in an electronics store where I needed a universal remote for controlling lots of different mfr's products. I'd like to switch the mfr of a TV (or whatever device) using the hard buttons on my Clie. The hard buttons section doesn't allow this. Also it'd be nice to be able to assign a hard button to go to the load preferences dialog as I have more than 5 preferences to choose from.

Great stuff, keep up the good work.

Yes I agree, all you are asking for is a must if Novii is to compete with PDAWin
