Thanks for all the help so far, I'm going to try and get this sorted by Xmas but just have a couple more questions:
1: Can the round hard button be used as a directional DVD menu button?
and
2: I'm wondering about sleep modes and wake up times. If your watching a film and after an hour you want to pause, will the PDA spring to life like a Pronto or will it have turned off. If it has can you change this setting or give it a screensaver to keep it busy? And how long does it take to come to life from start-up?
Thanks in advance for any help
Chris

Yes it can. In ProntoEdit to assign a command to the D-Pad(round Axim button), you'll assign the commands to the "hard keys" using ProntoEdit. Generally these are used for things like Channel Up/Down, Volume Up/Down, and Mute. However, many Axim (and other PDA users) tend to assign the D-Pad to be DVD controls instead. In ProntoEdit(PE), simply assign the "hard keys" as follows:

Channel-Up in PE assign to DVD-Right
Channel-Down in PE assign to DVD-Left
Volume-Up in PE assign to DVD-Up
Volume-Down in PE assign to DVD-Down
Mute in PE assign to DVD-Enter

and

In the Power Settings on the Axim, you can set how long to wait (up to 15 minutes) before it powers itself off, or you can have it not turn off. I advise against having it not turn off, as this would drain the battery a lot faster. Anyhow, when it powers off it basically just puts it in a "sleep mode." To wake it back up, either tap the power button or tap any of the hardware buttons. It goes back to the same place you were last at.

Also, on the Axim go to the Today settings and there is an item marked "Display Today screen if device is not used for (blank) hours". Disable this feature or set it to a very high number, because if it is enabled it will take you back to the main screen upon wakeup instead of taking you back to PDAwin.

Is there anyway you can use the round hard buttons for directional navigation & use the side scroling buttons for volume?

Cheers, Paul

If you are speaking of the BIG round 4-way D-Pad, then no there is not a way to do this.

If you are speaking of the 4 small round application buttons, then yes you can do this. You can just use ProntoEdit to assign a function to the 4 round application buttons.

In order to assign a function to the Jogdial on the side, you have to assign commands to the Volume hardkeys....this was addressed by me in my previous post. When you assign commands to the Volume hardkeys using ProntoEdit, it will automatically assign them to your Axim's D-Pad, as well as the side jogdial. Note that there is not a way to assign different functions to the D-Pad(Up/Down) and jogdial....they will both do the same thing.
