My dad has recently seen and been very impressed with my philips pronto and as he has recently installed a home cinema setup in his house is looking for an universal remote control.
Anyway he already has a compaq ipaq 3630 so I was wondering if this could be used as a pda remote using the philips software. If so what else would I need to buy for it? I have heard peaple talk about sleeves and ir extenders. I know what the extender does but I dont know what the sleeve does. Could anybody advise if turning this pda into a remote is a viable option?

The IR Extenders fit into a CompactFlash slot. Since the iPaqs are not equipped with a CF slot, you have to purchase a CF Sleeve for the iPaq. It's basically a "sleeve" that the iPaq fits into, and it adds on a CF slot.

The software that you'd want to check out (that emulates the Philips Pronto) is PDAwin TV Remote Controller. It uses the same CCF files as the Pronto Remotes, so any CCF files that you find in the Pronto Files Section here at Remote Central will work just fine.

Also, the IR Extender that works with this software is the PDA-ir CF IR Extender.

I have been using this setup with my Dell Axim for several months with no problems at all. There are just a few minor differences between this setup and that of an actual Philips Pronto.
