Got my EDV IR CF extender yesterday for my Dell Axiom. Plugged it into the built-in CF slot and ran my CCF. Everything works perfectly. I have installed the patch that enables the center function of the navigation button and I use the navigation button for similar functions as required by each remote, mostly for setup and adjustments.
I had an Ipaq 3850 before with a CF sleeve and IR extender, but I actually like the Axiom better. The shape of it resembles my Pronto TS1000 only a little smaller and thinner.
The price of the Axiom is very reasonable for a color remote especially compared to the Pronto Pro. I paid $265 for the 400mhz Axiom and $25 for the IR extender and that sure beats $500-600 for a Pronto Pro and of course one gets the extra memory over the Pronto Pro. I have 2 CCF's loaded into my Axiom that I can switch between, one for downstairs and one for upstairs, plus all the other programs and games.
I am very satisfied with the Axiom, the IR extender and TV Remote Controller 5.4 (if they could only fix the button press issue)!

Thanks for the info. I've been looking into getting an Axim soon but wanted it to double as a new remote.

Where did you get the IR extender? I thought it wasn't out yet?

Arnie,

I would like to get Axim instead of buying Pronto Pro since it should be cheaper. One question: Is the software you mention different from PDAWIN? By looking at the rev 5.4, it reminded me of PDAWIN. If it's not, where can I get the TV Remote Controller 5.4?

How easy is it to import the CCF file into the the software? Are there any custimization that's needed?

Thanks,

Ken

Ken,

TV Remote is PDAWin's software.

Yes TV Remote Controller is made by PDAWin. The IR extender is from Electric Dog Ventures and is now available. Everything works fine and of course there is no extra CF sleeve to by or add on. The price is definitely right. Good luck, Arnie...

Atari,
The button press issue refers to the button action being intiated on button RELEASE rather than on button PRESS which makes it impossible to do press and hold functions such as dim or brighten lights, adjust volume in a continuous manner, etc. If they could fix that aspect of their software on PDA's, it would be perfect (Prontos allow for this kind of button action as do most remotes).
Arnie...

"adjust volume in a continuous manner"

I can do this one by programming the up/down side button on the Dell Axim. I simply hold it up or down and it sends multiply signals so the volume increases without multiply button pushes. I know this does not solve the issue but there is a workaround simply for volume. I always use the side up/down for volume increases anyway.

Clint is right. I have been able to do this as well with any of the hard buttons, even adjust my lights to brite or dim and move my blinds open or closed. But it still would be nice to be able to do this with a created button and that can't happen until they (PDAWin) makes the button operation activated on button press rather than button release. I still like the AXIOM very much, even better than the iPaq because of the built-in CF slot.

There are two downsides though.
First, the code that is sent by a hard button is the repetition of the initial sequence, not the repeat sequence used by many different manunfacturers.
Second, I have much more buttons that I have to be able to repeat that I have hard buttons.

I live with this workarround for more than a year now, and PDAWin doesn't fix this, even though they have promised to do so several times. It limits the possibilities of this software immensely and if anyone comes arround who has a software that allows it, I am the first one to switch.

I have been told by PDAWIN that they are trying to fix the button press issue and that they have a release that at least partly solves the problem (though I'm not sure what they mean by this and it's not out yet). I must admit that I can't see how it is such a problem when every other remote can do it so easily. Still, I know they are trying and hopefully they will resolve this issue soon.

Isn't this a problem with pocketpc rather than PDAWin? All screen presses, no matter which application on a PDA, activates on release of the button rather than the press of it.

Got my Axim today and just waiting for the PDA-IR (not yet available in UK) and sure do hope they find a fix.

No, it is not. Every Windows control fires several events. If you observe whats going on closely, the screen buttons get inverted in non ccf-mode when they are pressed (not when released). I suppose they simply can't get the repeat to work properly, because they don't reproduce the IR-codes correctly. The original pronto format for learned IR-codes distinguishes between first press and repeat sequence. All PDAWin does is to repeat the first press sequence which is not correct and doesn't work properly on several consumer equipments.

OK, but the actual action of the button press does not happen until you release the button. I really do hope they fix it soon as I bought my Axim last week and would love to have full functionality.

Also, anyone know how I use PE to assign actions to the cursor pad. I know the Marantz software can do this but as the PDAWin software cannot use 9200 ccf files I have to use PE.

Thanks.
