I've been trying to figure this out for the last several hours but I'm not getting anywhere. I'm using PDAwin's TV Remote Controller version 5.2 software with the iPAQ 3955 and I've been playing with various CCF files downloaded from this site. Everything seems to work properly except that I can't get any discrete codes for my Sony KV-36XBR400 TV to work. I'm using ProntoEdit 4.0.5 and pasting the codes into the window that appears when you select "View IR" but the TV will not respond to the discrete codes after running the CCF on the PDA although all the learned codes work.

I have noticed that all of the Sony learned codes (which do work) seem to consist of an introductory string of four hex words followed by a string of 26 hex words that repeat five times with the final word of the last sting replace with "0fa7". The Sony discrete codes listed on this site only consist of a total of 30 words. Is there anything I can do to modify the discrete codes to make them work with TV Remote Controller? I've even tried to modify the discrete code by duplicating the terminal portion of the string to match the format of the learned codes but I get a message that it isn't a valid IR code from ProntoEdit.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The learned codes are probably longer than necessary. The original remote probably sends 5 copies of the code and the learning procedure records until it sees a long silence (i.e. the final 0fa7). Shortening the codes to the minimum that will operate your gear will reduce battery drain.

The third word is the number (in hex) of word pairs that follow the first 4 words. It is always an even number. If the number of word pairs does not match, you will get the error message you see.

Merely adding a long silence at the end of the code is unlikely to change anything.

You might try appending additional copies of the 26 code words, adjusting word #3 accordingly.

Dave,

Once again, thanks for your help. I was able to get the discrete code to work by repeating the burst sequence one additional time in the code. After digging a little deeper, I also determined that I needed to change the fourth word in the introductory sequence rather than the third word since the discrete code only seems to contain burst sequence 2 and not burst sequence 1. I've illustrated this below in case anyone else runs into this problem.

original discrete code from files section:

0000 0067 0000 000d 0060 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 03de

modified code:

0000 0067 0000 001a 0060 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 03de 0060 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0030 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 0018 03de

Note that I changed the fourth word in the code from 000d (13 pairs in the burst sequence) to 001a (26 pairs in the burst sequence).

Now I'm just waiting for delivery of your PDA-ir CF card so I can really start using the remote. It will be interesting to see if the code will work without the repeated burst sequence once I use the extender.

That code was set up as a repeating code that will repeat as long as the button is held. TV Remote Control doesn't handle that the same way as a Pronto except for the hard buttons.

The third word tells how many pairs to send on the press of the button. The fourth word tells how may pairs repeat as long as the button is held.

Some receivers may need two or more copies of the code to set the AGC while some code formats have a long initial pulse that serves this purpose.

Try 0000 0067 000d 0000 with the first code and 0000 0067 001a 0000 with the second.
