We work hard on this software problem to
use CF PDA-IR extender for Dell Axim. Please visit our website www.pdawin.com in a few days.

The latest version of TV Remote adds support for PDA-ir on the Toshiba e740 but not the Axim. PDAwin is actively working on the Axim. I hope they will have support for PDA-ir on the Axim within a week or two.

As I understand it 5.3 adds support for the built in Consumer IR on the iPAQ. Unfortunately I don't have a 39xx or 54xx to test it.

I can confirm today that PDAWin 5.3 does seem to 'activate' the CIR hardware in the iPaq 3955.

BUT, the iPaq hardware is still range and angle limited when compared to the PDA-IR extender. This product is still the definitive way to get decent IR range on iPaqs including recent models that have 'improved' CIR capabilities.

westmetro,

I can confirm your findings. I had exactly the same results when I tested 5.3 on a 3955. It seems that the IR extender is still the way to go.

Regards. Jay.

PDAwin has solved the software issue for the Dell Axim but it is going to require a change in some components used in the PDA-ir CF card to deal with the rather anaemic signal level from the Axim.

Components are on order and EDV should be shipping PDA-ir cards that will work with the Axim in 2-3 weeks. It will probably be 3-4 weeks before Laser has them in stock for the European market.

Dave,

Has PDAwin/EDV stated if these new Axim-compatible cards will be the same price? Same IR strength? Any more info that you have on them? Thanks.

The price will be the same. I expect the range will be comparable but cannot be certain until that is tested. The IR emitter will not change.
