Is there any 65,000 color ccf editors out there. Or can someone hack the color pallette of a ccf editor and make it 65k. It would look so good on a PDA if you could have 65k color with your CCF's.

This would require a change to the CCF format - so not only would the editor (Tonto or ProntoEdit) have to change but also anyone supporting the CCF format (PDAWin, NetRemote) would have to alter their software accordingly. It's something that's definitely possible but is unlikely to happen.

There is nothing internal to the CCF format that prevents the use of high-res bitmaps or formats other than BMP (jpeg, png, etc). This is strictly a restriction that Philips has put into ProntoEdit because of the hardware specs of the Pronto remotes. Same goes for screen size too.

Stewart (author of Tonto) could certainly add support for a 'new' kind of remote control that uses CCF files and has a different hardware spec/capability than the Philips remotes. Such as netremote.org and the pdawin.com software.

Following threads on another forum, Stewart may be working with the netremote guys to define something like that. I would also like to see him work with the PDAWin guys to do the same thing.

The original poster was specifically asking about 16-bit colour bitmap support. The official CCF format only supports a 256-colour table and so does not currently support more than 8-bit colours.

However, although nobody actually mentioned resolutions, you are correct in that the CCF format, without modification, can support screen resolutions greater than the existing Pronto/Marantz remotes support. The bitmap data could also be represented in a different format, but this would require changes to editors and viewers.

This is the response I got back from the Tonto people about incorporating 65k color palatte in thier ccf editor Tonto:

Regarding screen resolutions:
ProntoPro.exe actually contains a constants table (array) which gives the screen height for each of the Pronto models. This is currently set to 219 for all models, but can easily be changed (for one or all models) to allow for different screen heights.
Screen width appears to have been hard coded as a constant in the application (currently 240 for all supported Pronto models), so appears at various points withing the actual code (and sometimes 239 as well). Harder to change, but is just possible.
16 bit colour support can't be added though, it's just too much of an enhancement. If you really need 16 bit colour, I'd write a parser which takes in the ProntoEdit generated CCF and replaces 8 bit downsampled bitmaps with their original 16 bit versions. Just use the 8 bit downsamples for editing/testing.

Since the iPronto will be using a 65k color file format based on BMPs and XML, it might be better to start off with that as a base (although iProntoEdit isn't out yet).

So, do you have a reverse engineered source dump, or have you just been exploring?!

No, just exploring. Certainly not attempted to produce a fully commented reverse enginnered source dump. I just changed a few likely values and observed what happened. 4 byte long constants aren't that hard to find in most programs.

Tonto does now. Starting with version 1.41 (I think) there is support for 24bit and 32bit grahipcs, alpha transparency, and custom panel sizes (not just ProntoPro and Marantz sizes. I am working on an 800X600 implementation now.
