Hello all-
I currently have a Pronto (one of the fist ones out) but now want to go to a color screen. The Marantz 9200 looks really nice as does the Pronto Pro. However, they are a little expensive. It looks like I can get a color PDA for a lot less. Posts on this thread seem to point to an IPAQ as the PDA of choice. However, it seems that the 3900 series has a few problems (poor IR even with the extender and conflicts with certain remote control software). What do you recommend as the PDA of choice to perform as my new color remote? Any help would be grealty appreciated. Also, any software choices (remote emulation) would be great too!
Thanks!

I use an iPaq 3635 w/PDA-ir CF extender and TV Remote Controller software. I am using it with a custom CCF file and am quite happy with it. The developers of TVR 5.1 aren't very responsive, but overall, I am happy with the software.

If I was in the market for a new PDA based remote solution, I would check ebay for a good used iPaq 36xx, 37xx, 38xx. I would imagine you could pick one up for a decent price. After that, TVR 5.1 is $14.95 and the PDA-ir is $25.

Regards. Jay.

You can get it the easy way with a Sony Clie. Most of these come with a nifty little piece of software called Remote Media Controller, hence have an extended IR Port. RMC works with many appliances but if you look for something more sophisticated, go for OmniRemote.

I've been using both PalmOS and Pocket PC based PDAs, And I must admit Palm's are still more reliable and easier to use, whatever you plan to do with it (office documents, e-mail or merely PIM).
