I had just finished learning all the codes from my Pronto to my IPAQ 3850 and synched them back to my computer, then I tried to open the modified CCF in ProntoEdit4, and it crashes every time. The CCF appears to work in the IPAQ, but now I have no way to access it through ProntoEdit4. Does anyone know of a recovery program or any solution to this dilema? I have many hours in this now unavailable CCF! Thanks for any help, Arnie...

arnie,
I had the same issue, and like yourself I lost many hours of customization work! I asked the same question in a number of newsgroups and no one has provided a solution to this dilema. My current workaround is to ALWAYS back up my current verified file version before synching to my PDA. That way at least I have the file even if I lose some custom learned controls.

I had the same problem. I now use Tonto instead of ProntoEdit. It works perfectly.

I have not had that problem again since my first and only crash. But I do back up often and in different places so I won't loose my information. I don't know what caused it, possibly some bad learned codes or something like that.

I wish I had seen this thread 24 hours ago!

Between my laptop, my home PC and the iPAQ, I thought I had enough backups of everything, but I was wrong.

In the excitement of getting the thing to work, I've managed to lose most of my first full CCF. I'll be taking a look at Tonto.

I don't suppose we are any nearer to finding a fix?

Out of the 100 (or more) times I've opened my CCF in ProntoEdit, I've had that happen ONCE. I always keep a "working copy" backed up in 3 different places (one copy on each of my two hard drives, and one on CD). ALWAYS KEEP A BACKUP COPY!!! :)

3 files produced so far (with many generations of both)in less than one week. Nothing clever, large, or even complete, but ProntoEdit will not open 2 of the 3. On two different machines. Guess I'm just unlucky.

Anybody out there with up/downloading problems, my advice: USE TONTO!
If you dont like to learn a new software, then use PEdit to edit your ccf, then save and open with tonto to download.

But once you have used tonto, you'll probably switch over completely...

I did! Great Stuff!!!

I've just encountered this problem & thank god for Tonto which opens the synced file fine.
Also its managed to clear up some rogue hard buttons that were being displayed when the the software was in full screen mode on my PDA, I had searched & searched my ccf but couldn't find reference to then !!

BTW the only change I had made to my ccf when the original "crash" problem occured was learning the remote codes for my projector (DELL) ?!
