I just got a 3850 IPAQ and PDAWin. I have a Pronto TS1000 and ProntoEdit4. I made a color version of my CCF and uploaded it into my IPAQ and opened it using TV Remote. I found that none of my buttons worked, so I learned a few of them for a test from my TS1000. The range was about 6' max (I am getting a CF sleeve and IR extender so range hopefully won't be a problem). I do have several questions though:
1. What are the UP/DOWN arrows at the upper left of the page? Can they be programed or what?
2. When you set up a macro, do the delays (which are often needed) transfered to the IPAQ and do they work just like on the Pronto?
3. What is that awful beep that happens every time you press a button? Is there any way to tone it down or change the sound?
4. How do you program or learn the hard buttons?
5. Sometimes when in learn mode pressing a button to learn brings up an error message and then kicks me out of the program entirely, is this normal?
6. Is there a work around to the device menu that pops ups when you choose a device?
I'm sure I'll find some more questions as I go along, but just wanted some feedback.
Thanks, Arnie...

Hi Arnie. Welcome to the world of the iPaq remote control! Boy, do you have a lot of work ahead of you. :) Seriously, I've been using mine for a few months now, and I love it. It did take a significant amount of work to tweak it in, though.

I think you'll be happy with the CF IR Extender. I use mine all over a large room and have no problems with range.

That being said, I'll try to answer your questions:

1. Those UP/DOWN arrows can be used to scroll through different pages of a selected device. Honestly, though, I don't use them. All of my devices/pages are accessed through graphical buttons on the screen.

2. I have all kinds of delays set up in my button actions and macros and they work great. I can't comment on them working just like the Pronto, as I haven't seen one.

3. Yeah, that 'chirp' sound is really annoying. Go to 'Options' at the bottom of the screen on the iPaq and uncheck 'Sound'.

4. The hard buttons are set on a device's properties page in ProntoEdit. You can program the action button (up/down/left/right and middle press) and the other four buttons on the front of the iPaq. The mappings for these are on the PDAWin website. It took me a while to learn that setting the hard keys on the System Properties page doesn't mean that those settings filter down to each device. You must program the hard keys on EACH device's properties page. It's a pain to have to duplicate those settings, but well worth it. Lastly, the hard buttons can't be 'learned'. You just alias them to another button which has been learned (i.e. Receiver-Vol Up)

5. No, that's certainly not normal. I've never had that happen.

6. Yes, there is a work around... don't use the device menu. It's really hokie. As I said, all my devices are accessed through graphical buttons on the screen. Download some sample CCF files from this site and check it out, or if you like, I'd be happy to send you mine for comparison.

Enjoy! Regards. X.

Thanks for the reply. So the hard buttons must be alaised to other buttons? On my Pronto the hard buttons are learned, so I guess I will have to make new buttons somewhere on my pages and then alaise the hard buttons to them. I would be interested in seeing your CCF. Please e-mail it to me at: [email protected]

That's right. In fact, you'll see that is the way a lot of these files are set up. Typically they will have sort of 'hidden' panels set up with the learned codes of all the devices. The buttons on the nice looking graphical panels that you actually see are generally aliased to buttons on those hidden panels. That gives you a great amount of flexibility in your set up. The hard buttons are simply aliased to buttons on those hidden panels as well.

I will send you a copy of my CCF and you can take a look.
