Since nobody else seems interested in doing it, I have created a styles database for Omniremote Pro that emulates Daniel Tonks colour Pront Pro setup. here ya go:

[Link: hanneng.com]

It turned out pretty damned good. It'd a colour setup, but it also looks decent on a PalmIIxe. It's not a complete port of Daniel's graphics, due to limitations of either the Palm hardware or the Omniremote software, I had to cut way back on the number of images (there's still about 75).

Screenshots:

All graphics were shamelessly ripped from Daniels CCF file, scaled down for a 160x160 display and compiled using the instruction in the "HowToCreateStyles.txt" file included with Omniremote. Thank Daniel and maybe read his license and donation info.

Personally, I find it mind boggling that I did in a day what the authors of Omniremote haven't bothered to do since the software's inception. I can think of nothing that would sell their software faster than some decent graphics.

It's pre-setup with the following:

Toshiba TN55x81 HDTV
Hughes E45 dss receiver (except power switch)
Sanyo VH9429 VCR
JVC RX6100V receiver/amplifier

The other devices have IR codes ripped from numerous devices, since they operate my DVD player, Winamp, etc., on my computer using an IRman (i.e., the code will certainly be useless for all equipment, except for above).

You're welcome, do whatever you want with it. Sorry about the attitude, but I find the apathy in the Palm remote control community distasteful.

Hi Pawn,

Good job! Really a god job. I can't use it in my palm V due to lack of memory error (with 640k free!!!) but i saw your job in the palm emulator. Currently, I am using the ProntoLite from Philips due it is faster than omniremote (at least in my palm) but it has some limitations like not macros, standard interface, etc (maybe the 1.5 version will be more flexible). But now, I really think try again with Omniremote and your tonks.pdb (Thanks Daniel!), maybe with some screens, I have not big quantity of devices. So, I have some questions to you:

1) Do you now some method to avoid the error messages in the Palm Emulator when try to use the IR Port???

2) I have the Ordesktop 1.0.3.7 (not for OR Pro) and I don't see any graphic in your .pdb, with the new version 1.0.3.9 you get the graphics?

3) Can you share the graphics with us?

Thank you and congratulations for your excellent job!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm a little shocked nobody has done something like this before. Omniremote has the ability at this point (IMO) to really rival the Pronto.

As has been pointed out many times, though, an IR booster is an absolute must.

So, I have some questions
to you:

1) Do you now some method to avoid the error messages
in the Palm Emulator when try to use the IR Port???

Yeah. I had that too. Basically, right click on the screen when the emulator is running, hit "Settings" and turn off all debugging and error handling check boxes. I take it Omniremote uses some not-approved hardware access methods.

2) I have the Ordesktop 1.0.3.7 (not for OR Pro)

Sadly, contrary to what they *still* claim ORDestop does not, in any way whatsoever, work with Omniremote Pro.

3) Can you share the graphics with us?

Sure:

Orignal bitmaps:

[Link: hanneng.com]

Bitmaps scaled to 160x160 screen:

[Link: hanneng.com]

Resource files for pLirc:

[Link: hanneng.com]

Also included in this last file are two batch files: one to compile all files and one to rename all files to "prc" files to be installed on Palm.

*note* these files are probably missing items. Sorry. The scaled bitmaps are probably complete. The originals seem to be missing some (just by the zip file size). BTW, there are more bitmaps above than I finally used (due to crashing problems when all images were loaded).

The batch files will be missing some late additions I realized I forgot. I can remember for sure the pause buttons and some of the "home" screen little bits.

Have fun.

Thank you and congratulations for your excellent
job!

In all honesty, it was pretty simple. Rip the bitmaps using ProntoEdit (freely available from www.prontoedit.com), then convert them to Palm resource files following the instructions in the "HowToCreateStyles.txt" file that comes with Omniremote Pro (follow my examples). Oh yeah, the bitmaps have to be scaled by a factor of 67% fpor the smaller screen.

It gets a little tedious (OK, a lot) but using a few command line and batch file tricks, you can get it done.

Maybe I'll do another Pronto setup, any suggestions?

It would be pretty cool to the have some of the tv channel logos converted so they could be used with the Omniremote Pro software.

I have loaded up the database (been waiting for something like this for ages) on my Sony Clie N760, but what I get is a tiny screen in the top left hand corner. If I use the "stretch to fit screen" option, I get a kind of mosaic effect! Am I doing something obviously wrong?

I'm not the one to ask. Does Omniremote work for you, using the stock databases that come with it? Maybe try loading the "Gel" database.

Oh, maybe the Clie has a higher resolution display. note that I made this for a 160x160 Palm display.

trying to get this to run on a palm iii (not color). keep getting a fatal error that resets my palm. I tried converting the bitmaps to b&W, although I'm not sure that photoshop actually changes their type. changed the bitmapcolor to bitmapgrey16 and re pilrc'ed. uploads fine, but if I choose one as a style in advanced styles, it bombs. any suggestions?

I just do it the same: I convert all the bitmaps to 16 greyscale bitmaps and re pilrc'ed using the bitmapgrey16 param. The database shrinks to 175K aprox. The pdb uploads fine, but when I choose in "load style" I get "out of memory errors" or "missing something...". I have a Palm V with 2 Mb (600K free). and I try to get out some categories shrinking the PDB to 120K and the fatal errors continues... Now, I have a Palm VX (8 Mb.) of a friend in my house, and the bigger PDB works flawlesly! I believe it is a problem of Omniremote to handle the bitmaps correctly...

Really this styles database looks great, but I still prefer to use the Philips Pronto Lite, it is more stable, faster and works much better to learn the codes from other remotes, but it has some drawbacks like No Macros and "Fixed template". Both things will be added/changed in the new 1.5 version (As Philips said). Maybe, we will see a CCF to PDB converter for the PPLite PDB database soon, it would be great!

I really wish I could help. I had problems at first with my Palm IIIc and Palm IIIxe and I had to cut way back on the number of bitmaps. Then it worked. Both devices have 8MB of RAM, and perhaps yours doesn't.

Another thing, both devices I mentioned have absolutely nothing else installed.

Maybe a better question is, has anybody (besides me) successfully installed this database?

Anyone?

it's only a 2mb pda, but it's got 1.7mb free. how do you assemble the .pdb? I just created .prcs and uploaded those, and I only uploaded a few of them, not the whole lot. I didn't know how to put them together.

My next try is to go to 4 bit.

Pawn,
I just upload your "tonks.pdb" in my friend's Palm VX with 8MB. and works fine, flawlesly, but in my Palm V with 2 MB. and near 800KB free the errors still appears. FYI, I have used OR 2.02 and 2.07 in both PDAs...

Gbshaw,
1) You have to upload the PRCs with the graphics created with pilrc and import to Omniremote, then you can delete this PRCs and you just can see the graphics in OR. I suggest you use the Palm Emulator to create the omniremote PDB, is easy and you have shortcuts to do the job faster (CTRL + C + palm_stroke). Then you can Export the remote database from the emulator.
2) I just try with 4 bit grayscale graphics and the results were the same, I can send you my PDB remote if you want. FYI, the graphics in 16 grayscale looks better in monochome palm than the 256 colors graphics...

This typof conversion is what Total Remote needs.
The TR format is a PNG graphic file which could incorporate bitmaps. I wonder what software Total Remote uses for Skin creation. They should be pushing as much info out to get some development going.
With a litle creativity a batch conversion might be possible at least for the graphics

did eventually get it to load after some work with pilrc. on my palm III, though, the graphics weren't clear enough. gone back to basic omniremote buttons, which worked out fine.
