I was just wondering how long the batteries last when using the Palm III as a URC.

I also thought about using the Palm V instead and letting it charge in the cradle when I wasn't using it, but for as much as I would spend on a Palm V, I might as well just get a Pronto.

Scott: Tough question........ how long is long? Depends on how much time you use it each day, as with anything else. It uses very little battery while just sitting there. Are you a constant volume tweaker? That emits a continuous stream from the IR. Lotsa macro use? That'll use up some battery. But, the Palm lllx is very good on batteries. I use mine regularly each day and get 6 to 8 weeks of battery use (cheap batteries). But that includes about 3 megs of appplications and docs to keep in memory including many alarms, etc.

My Palm Pilot for URC use lasts about 3 months using the OmniRemote software without an IR extender. The IR extender will use the batteries up a little faster.

Hope this helps.

And yes, a Palm V is way overkill for using just as a URC. If you have the lll, use it. If you don't and want a PalmOS device as a URC, get a Handspring Visor with the OmniRemote springboard module.

But, as always, that's.....

..... just my 2-bits!!! - Greg :-)

I do have a Palm III, but I wanted to get another one to use as a dedicated remote, in case I leave mine at work or something. Thanks for the reply, maybe I'll take a closer look at the Handspring Visor.
