Does anyone know if this device could act as a Universal Remote? It has an IR port on the front and has an excellent colour display. It runs Windows CE v3 so I presume that if there is some CE universal remote software around it should work.

Julie: The question was answered right above your question. There is no software for the PocketPC that is worth it. There are a couple of them on the market, but they are so old, they are virtually useless.

Hello Folks
I'm A application developer looking to develop a new remote application but I need a Baseline
(VB SorceCode). I have managed to find the IR code threw my Proto all I need to do is send a streem (IR) port. I think I will setup a mini web site (HTML)all I need is the means to talk to the IR Port.

Thanks

Hey Guys...

Programming IR remote control for CE devices is very difficult. The normal software API from Microsoft only lets you talk in IRDA. IRDA is not compatible with Consumer remote controls. To work around this problem, the developer must code to the specific hardware. That means each pda requires a different source code base. Also, the IRDA port on most PDA's is not very strong, and has a limited range. Because the IPAQ is so popular (And I hear the IR transmitter is fairly strong ) you might see some software developed for it. Also, add on hardware might become available (like the Palmremote). Keep an eye on the forums at www.brighthand.com and www.wincecity.com for much more info about this topic.
