Hi there,

I am using an electric dog IR extender. I was going to use it with my iPaq H3970 & a silver slider jacket. I am using TV remote controller 5.0 but it does not appear to be working correctly. Can anyone tell me if it is compatible or is there something that I can do to make it work properly?

TV Remote Control software does not support the extender on the H39xx series. I believe PDAwin is working on it.

Hi Dave,

thanks for the reply. This is really annoying for iPaq H39XX series users. We have recently been informed that the Nevo IR cannot be unlocked & that the IR extender does not work.

Where did you get your information from? I presume it was from PDAwin. I have e-mailed them a few times & have recieved the standard "WE ARE WORKING ON IT" reply.

If they are going to take peoples money I think that it would be fair of them to tell us when they expect to have the issue resolved & to advise people that it is not compatible.

I know that the site states compatible models but it would be a lot fairer to also advise potential customers that other models will not work.

I bought the software hoping that the Nevo IR would be able to be utilsed. Now it seems that is not possible, now we find out that owners of the new iPaqs cant even use an extender.

NOT FAIR!!!! Lift your game PDAwin. Other users in the same situation as me should also e-mail them with similar concerns.

If I happen to receive a good reply I will post it here. If I again get a lame excuse or no reply then I will also advise potential customers to beware.

Sorry about your problem, I don't know anything about the Ipac, but I was wondering if Electric Dog has an IR extender that will work with a Palm 515?

I have just been through all this with my 3950. Fortunately I got it on 14 day approval, so I took it back and ordered a Marantz 9200. Serves me right for trying to be clever?!?!

I got my information from PDAwin.

I designed the PDA-ir extender that Electric Dog sells. Electric Dog has a list of compatible iPAQs on their web page.

The problem is that each PDA (even different iPAQs) handles things differently as far as how CF slot pins are controlled. Unless they can get in depth documentation PDAwin is pretty much up the creek. Compaq had the necessary documentation. But HewPAQ apparently hasn't done as good a job documenting the H39xx series.

The Nevo situation cannot be blamed on PDAwin. I wouldn't expect Nevo to cooperate with a competitor.

I'm not familiar with the Palm 515. The only extender Electric Dog sells requires a CompactFlash slot.

I received a polite reply from PDAWin today.

They stated that the problem is that the "strong" IR diode is locked only for Nevo software. They are working on this but so far with no luck.

The Electric Dog IR extender is supported but only for iPAQ 3100,3600,3700,3800 series (so far the 3900 is not available). Due to very limited documentation some issues can not be solved.

They stated that they could not say when they will be able to solve these issues "(maybe next week or maybe in two, three months)".

I suppose this is really bad news for owners of the 3900 series. Lets hope that the problem can be solved.

Just for the record, I tried an Electric Dog IR Extender with an older iPaq & the TV Remote Control software Version 5.0. I could bounce the signals off of the walls & it performed very well.

What are you guys talking about "strong" diod and locked mean?
You mean my range I'm getting with teh Nevo software and my 3975 is becuase its using a stronger IR diode, which needs to be turned on? And that Nevo has the rights to use it? Weird..

Nevo is a combination of both hardware (an IR emitter with 940nm wavelength) and software. Nevo does not use the IrDA 850nm emitter. Since it's Nevo's hardware, they are not likely to cooperate with third party software developers.

From what I know, the IR diode used by Nevo is actually on the Nevo chip. (Not that I've taken it apart, though) Thus, PDAWin would have a tough time controlling it.

I'm searching for a way to control Nevo's IR capabilities as well, but I'm not concerned about going around them. UEI doesn't provice an API or SDK to control their emitter, but I would like to design a different interface.

In addition, I've head rumors that Nevo could be available for other PDAs through a serial connection. I'm hoping so... I would love a PPC Phone / PDA / Remote combo.
