I downloaded Tonto to try out. I still use OS9 primarily, but OSX is also on my G4. I booted OSX and Tonto and got only Tonto's startup screen. Am I missing some requirements? I have no pda, but do have a usb to serial connector, but don't know if I need OSX software for it to be recognized. Is this my bottleneck? I was hoping to learn Tonto and get an interface prepared before purchasing either the IPAq or the Clie. Any OSX-Tonto support would be appreciated

1) Are you using the latest version of Tonto (1.29)?
2) Are you running the latest OSX updates (1.1.5)?
3) How much RAM do you have?

If you have a USB adapter, then a) it *must* be a high-speed adapter capable of 115200 baud and b) it *must* have OSX drivers from the manufacturer.

I could only find links to Tonto 1.19.,

I'm on 10.1 build 5g64, unable to get internet to work on OSX, so not sure if i can upgrade.(Will try to load update in 9.2)

Does the adapter need to be installed to try out the software?

Thanks for the reply

The Tonto homepage is here:

You need to update OSX to 10.1.5. Without the update you are missing important Java fixes.

You do not need internet connectivity or adapter drivers to use the editing features of Tonto. Internet connectivity will give you auto-update capability and the adapter is just for upload/download of configurations to/from the remote.

Stewart,

I managed to update to 10.1.5, and Tonto 1.3, but still end up with only the Tonto "start-up" screen and no menus...

I tried to drag a downloaded ccf file onto the Tonto icon to no avail.

(1.1 GB ram btw.)

This is the first time I've heard of Tonto failing to launch under OSX. I can't think of a reason why. Are you familiar with using a shell? I'd ask to you launch it from the command-line which should yield better debug info. If you know Tonto's install path, replace $TONTOHOME with that:

java -jar $TONTOHOME/Contents/Resources/Java/tonto.jar

Thanks, Stewart,

My OSX computer is at work, so I can't try til monday. I'll try the command line. If that works THEN I can be overwhelmed by the interface or lack thereof.

I did load ProntoEdit on our Mac-centric office's token Wintel machine. It couldn't boot for lack of a .dll file. Being a mac guy, I know I can't try to figure out that problem.

Stewart,
Just saw your name on the startup screen....

>Here's the log:

[localhost:~] omsphoto% java -jar /Applications/Tonto-1.30.app/Contents/Resources/Java/tonto.jar
Error loading JComm JNI library
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NoSuchMethodError
at com.neuron.app.tonto.Tonto.setupMacSpecific(Unknown Source)
at com.neuron.app.tonto.Tonto.init(Unknown Source)
at com.neuron.app.tonto.Tonto.(Unknown Source)
at com.neuron.app.tonto.Tonto.main(Unknown Source)
at Tonto.main(Unknown Source)

I successfully ran Tonto 1.30 on a new IBook, It loaded some fonts and asked me to reboot. I tried to locate which fonts it loaded and put them on mine. (BiauKai.dfont, Kai.dfont) just a guess, haven't tried it yet.

Nice interface. Is there an equivalent to the test run program?

Charlie,

thanks for the stack trace. it's expected to see the JComm JNI error when running from the command-line, but the NoSuchMethodError is a complete mystery. I've never seen this on a Mac and I can only guess that it means some Java resource is not installed on your system. I've added a protective measure against this for 1.31 so when I post 1.31 it *should* work on your system. please give it a shot and let me know.

Stewart,

It did boot, but when I loaded a test file, the buttons and backgrounds were rooted in the extreme upper left corner of the main window and stayed put when moving the individual window, though I havent tested this on the IBook (unavailable)

Hi,

I'm having the same problem with the tonto software on Fedora Core 4 regarding the JComm JNI library.

Anyone knows where this library can be found or how to get past this error ?

Marcel.
