Hi becky,

I think of those Connecting Block because you said in your webpage 'However, SmartHome offers an optional miniature extension IR emitter for $12.95 that plugs into the back of the receiver unit'.

Is it possible that I plug a Connecting Block to the base unit, then connect some extension IR emitter. I suppose both the base unit, Connecting Block and the IR emitter use same (mini?)phone plug.

Or am I totally wrong? Thanks in advance.

regards,

Li On

Hi Li,

Don't know whether that would work or not. I'd suggest that you contact either SmartHome or the unit's manufacturer (http://www.windmaster.com) and ask.

I'm the author of ORDesktop. So send the email to me.

I'm on the road for the next few days and most of next week so I'll apologize now if I am a bit slow getting back to you.

Thanks for this thread. I hadn't seen it before.

Mr. Peter Sharpe's email address is [email protected]

He says he has hundreds of device codes and you can share "categories" and cut and paste, etc. Looks pretty cool for his first effort.

I will be beta testing the software. Hope others will too. I'd like to make this puppy sing right from the start.

I've purchased a Pilot Professional on ebay, now I need the 2 MB upgrade card with IR. Anyone have one to sell, or know where I can find one (aside from ebay)?

Thx.

WinCE?!? Has anyone tried the SkyCommander software (http://skycommander.webjump.com/) on a WindowsCE PDA device such as the HP Jornada 680, HP Jornada 420, HP 660LX, HP 620LX or HP 360LX? The software allows for 'complete' control of the design including customized graphics and buttons. For about the cost of the Pronto or IRIQ, you could have a "universal remote" that checks e-mail, plays games, drafts word documents, does your calendering etc. Has anyone tried the software? Before I change to a different PDA and spend a few hundred, I'd like to hear someone's opinion from this site - you all sound well informed.

Anybody get Peter's ORDektop beta yet? I did. Looks promising, but needs quite a bit of work to come anywhere near ProntoEdit. Mind you, I've only spent about 10 minutes with it so far.

Let me know what you think if you've tried it.

Andrew,

I was fooling around with that idea when I was first shopping for the Palm. It looks like a great piece of software, the big problem is the hardware it runs on. Last I checked, which was a while back, it only worked with Palm computers; meaning full keyboard. These are much too big for an everyday remote. Now, I'm not sure if there is one out there, but it would be interesting to see a remote control program compatible with a Windows CE PDA.

GregoriousM,

I have downloaded the software, but haven't had any time to take a glance. Please keep up posted on your testing. I'm sure all of us are interested to here what may be in store for the future.

I am thinking of doing this, Purchase a Palm Pro off of Ebay, then upgrade and get software. My question is, has anyone had luck with the Dish system? I have a 4500 I believe, I recently modified it to use IR instead of UHF because I wanted one remote. I use the Cinema 7 now and it works great. But, I would love to do something with display and etc... I also have the following devices: Toshiba CZ32V51 TV, Toshiba SD2109 DVD, Pioneer VSX305 receiver, Sony 50 Disc CD changer, Panasonic HIFI VCR. Can anyone comment on how these will operate? I like to do all my research before going forward. Thanks.

Brad

P.S.
Not all of us have the $300+ to afford a remote, I think the palm is a great alternative to the Pronto. My wife would shoot me at getting a $300+ remote. She had a fit when I spent $25 for the Cinema 7. But I am in need of a PDA, so if nothing else works, I got a PDA.

Andrew,

Why can't we use the Philips Nino as a remote control? The Nino uses Window CE as the operating system as well.

Thanks,

Brad S,

Don't have a dish system, so I can't help you there. As for your other components, they should work fine. Something interesting that I've been wanting to do, but don't have the equipment, is to use the Palm as a database to keep all your 50 CD in your changer logged on the Palm. Whenever you want to look for a track, query your Palm, grab the CD and track number, and punch it in through Omniremote!

Andrew,
I too wish that it could be handled through the Nino, but it is hardware specific. No PDA's are able to use that softer, only Palm Computer's.

Tod,
What is a tivo?
