I had great luck using the new cheep m100 Palm Pilot which is backlit and has pretty strong IR. The remote program is wonderful, was sooo easy to setup. Since I already have the 4040 IR X10 converter it was easy to create a single button that turns off the lights and the TV and then turns on the night lights. The button is labeled Night. What a great set of products to keep us moving less and less :)
The RF extender for the Palm Pilot looks like a great investment too (
[Link: smarthome.com]). Having a wide range / touch screen interface to control the A/V equipment and lighting for $200 total (new) is pretty cheep.

I also have 7 in one and 6 in one remotes, they are both great. Use the 6-in-one in the living room where all the equipment is. There the IR X10 converter inputs x10 codes into the walls (to control lights). The 7-in-one RF works from anywhere in the house, very nice. Use that to control the tv in the bedroom and turn down the tv in the living room if too loud/no on e there. Also it controls the lights from anywhere in the house. I also have some remotes from
www.x10.com such as the remote mouse and their version of a six in one ... these cheep ones don't have pip, swap etc. So if you have a fancy set, they are no good. May as well get the The square box remotes for x10 that have 8 on / off buttons are the best for just lighting. Then get Radio Shack remotes for all purpose remotes
in living and bed rooms. They are quality.
Hope you all have as much luck with this as I have.

Another great experience ....
If you have ever wondered about hooking up a PC to a large TV (i.e. to surf the net / play DVD's, 3d Games, MP3s, etc) the RCA MM52100 52 inch Monitor / Television is a Monitor (normal VGA jack) so the picture is super clear. I just got one and am SUPER happy. Also it acts as a USB hub, so you can plug in Keyboard, mouse, joysticks, etc into the front of the tv and plug the USB connection from the back of the PC to the TV, along with A/V and VGA. The picture is amazing when viewing 800x600 computer screen. It is not the distorted junk you get from normal A/V connections, it is crisp and readable from the couch 10 or more feet away (need a wireless keyboard/mouse too, may want to try 900mhz keyboard). I have the logitech mouse/keyboard setup (100 bucks) it works good from about 6 feet from extended rf base. Note: The TV does not convert convenstional interlaced analong to progressive scan or anything fancy, so if picture quality of un-converted conventional analog input is of upmost importance, this may not be the set for you. If you want a kick ass 52" computer monitor with great DVD and Digital class input .. you have found your set :)
