I have a psion 5mx - is there any software that allows the infrared transmitter on this to act as a remote contro?

The only software that I know of is S5TV (now called IR-Remote) from Jim Pollock. It is still being developed and Jim seems to be working on this project again after a long absence. All I can suggest is you keep an eye on his web site for further updates. [Link: geocities.com]
