Is there anything that is as close to what the ProntoEdit can offer? I have the new iPAQ with builtin 802.11b support and i know that i can use my network as X-10, but if there is anysoftware, i don't care how much it is, but is omniremote the only thing out there? Is omniremote really that good?

Please let me know if you have any info on this thanks.

Try TVRemote by PDAWin. (www.pdawin.com) They released an update a few days ago. It supports CCF files and is really great. I bought it yesterday. I loaded a configuration that I made with the Pronto Pro and was suprised how good it is. All codes that I learned with the Pronto worked and the Ipaq has a much better display and is a less than half the price if you use an IPaq 3630.
So I made a Pronto Pro out of my IPaq and it only cost me $14,95.
The only disadvantage is that you have to do something about the range, but there are several remote extenders on the market...

Hope this helps

Wilhelm

Wilhelm, can you tell me what the range would be without an extender? are we talking about 20 feet vs 30 with an extender or what?

No, you only get about 8-10 feet without an extender. TV Remote Controller 3.0 (www.pdawin.com) will support the UltraMote IR extender (a CF card) in the future (per an email they sent me). Here it is: [Link: ultramote.com] There is also one that you can get from smarthome that should work [Link: smarthome.com]

As for using the iPaq as a remote, I love it. It is smaller than a Pro, and the screen is better. You could also do it cheaper buying the stuff of eBay or something...

@natgas
The range depends mostly on the receiving device. I have a Yamaha AX1 which I could control over 2.5m. My Sky Digibox only worked within 1 meter.
I built an IR-Extender myself which I managed to fit into my IPAQ. So I don't have these limitations anymore. Perhaps I will release this knowledge but at the moment I haven't got the time to make a proper schematic. So we'll see...

hmm.. odd.. Everyone seems to be saying 8 feet. I did some testing with my new IPAQ 3835 tonight and I can control all of my components reliably from 16 feet away. Did I just get lucky are are there some component differences at work here?
