I only had one hit in another forum so its being reposted here.
--------------
I originally posted this in the formum for the MX-500
I am looking into getting ORDesktop to make codes for OmniRemote and heard that the MX-500 will not learn the codes from it. One thread said it worked by luck but it didn't seem consistent.

It seems that the frequency is incorrect and can be changed on the OmniREmote software on the palm.

Does anyone know the correct frequency or if OmniRemote works correctly with the MX-500?

thanks

I'd like to find out more about this also.
I was trying for the first time this morning to learn codes FROM my Palm M500 w/OmniRemote TO my MX-500.
The MX-500 reports "GOOD" when learning but the button doesn't work.
I eventualy got the codes learned correctly after about 20 trys each.
At the time I wasn't sure if the problem was related to the M500 hardware or the particular codes I was trying to learn.
Anyone with a different Palm model who can report reliable transfers?
Anyone with tips or trick to help this work more reliably?

EDIT: I found some info in this thread.

It appears it's an issue with the Palm hardware and not specific to the MX-500.
It must have something to do with the way OmniRemote uses the IRDA port.
Unfortunately PacificNeoTek doesn't make a "OmniRemote Module" for the Palm 500.

I did some more experiments to try to determine the cause of this diffuculty.

First, I tried teaching some other codes for different devices from the Palm to the MX-500.
This time I couldn't get any codes to work at all.
Last time I was teaching some codes for a Pioneer TV, this time a Pioneer DVD player, Sony VCR and Tivo. I don't know why it worked for the TV, but try and try again I couldn't learn a single other code from my Palm to my MX-500.

Second, I tried teaching another learning remote.
I have several other learning capable remotes that came with other devices.
I was able to teach from the Palm to 2 out of 3 other learning remotes.
The ones that worked were the remote for my Yamaha RX-V3000 and my Pioneer VSX-D1S.
The one that didn't work was the remote for my new Pioneer TV.

This tells me that it's not just the MX-500 that has trouble learning codes from the Palm.

Third, I tried teaching those codes from the other learning remotes to the MX-500. It didn't work.
The codes work from the Palm, and they work from the other learning remotes after teaching from the Palm, but the MX-500 won't learn them correctly from either one.

This lead me to believe it was the code causing the problem, not the Palm.

Forth, I tried some codes straight from the original remote instead of the descrete codes I got off the net. I was able to teach the power button from my DVD player remote into my Palm. I was able to teach the same power button from my DVD player remote into my MX-500. I could not teach the same code from the Palm to the MX-500.

Conclusion.
The MX-500 can't learn the code straight from the Palm or from another remote if the code originated from the Palm.
This leads me to believe that the Palm is altering the original code in some way that still allows it to work with the device but not with some learning remotes.

Anyone have any insight into what the Palm is doing to the code?
My first thought is the frequency. It's possible that a device will still respond to a code even if it's not at the same frequency as the original remote.
Is there a breakdown somewhere of the ORDesktop IR codes? Is it possible to change the code manually to alter the frequency?
