Just wondering when we can expect the next version of OmniRemote? Also what improvements are planned? The only real feature I need is for category buttons to work in macros. That is huge for my use. Besides that I want some graphics and icons, like the Pronto.

What features do you all want to see in OmniRemote?

LOL, Glyn!

The next version will be 1.2.

Some sparse info:

PacificNeotek: "Can I write my own programs that work with OmniRemote™?
Not yet, however a programmer's interface to OmniRemote™ is planned for version 1.2."

Lots of possibilites there for tying in with database programs e.g. CD and DVD lists!!! Exciting!

PacificNeotek: "How can I exchange layouts and training with someone else?
At this time OmniRemote™ doesn't support exporting individual categories, however this feature is planned for version 1.2."

PacificNeotek: "Can I clone an entire category?
OmniRemote™ doesn't currently have this feature, however it's planned to be added in version 1.2."

So, other than those things mentioned above, I don't know of anything with a "wow" factor being considered for version 1.2.

Other than programming to work with OmniRemote, ORDesktop takes care of everything else that 1.2 will do that I know about.

But, it doesn't hurt to send a wish list to PacificNeotek!!! [email protected]

But, I'd love to see what everyone would like to see in the next or next next versions!!! - Greg :-)

My top three requests for OmniRemote are
1. Ability to change categories as part of a macro,
2. hard-key mapping based on category (with punch through), and
3. button icons, both built-in and custom.

I'd also love to get my hands on the programmers interface, but I don't consider that a part of OmniRemote itself.

Peter,

Your #2 is a great suggestion. I forgot abot that one.

OmniRemote only needs a few enhancements to be a great URC. I hope that PacificNeotek continues to enhance the product.

I would like to see unlimited screens.
To have a device with a mimimum of 2meg of memory and limit the number of screens to 15 doesn't make sense.

I would like to use my Omni remote to do time lapse with my Sony camcorder

example "record start" wait 3 seconds "record stop"
wait 4 minutes "record start"
wait 3 seconds and so on.

Does any one have an idea?
Thanks Kevin

- 160x160 mono, 4 or 16 grayscale bitmaps (or color ;-)
- more readymade icons
- little more font control (eg larger/bold fonts to see buttons easily)

- readymade, "clean", directly loadable device code files (not go to other website, download app, download ccfs, click N times, copy paste etc.)

- popup menus for large series of macros, for example in a Sony CDP240 200-disc changer (each macro would of the form NNN and the text would be a short name of the CD, and you might have 6 groups of 25 CDs
Of course, I'd like to enter these long lists with a desktop app like ORDesktop or from a text file not by hand on the palm ;-)
With timed commands in OR you might even do things like: "play classical music (block 3), random tracks, for 2 hours"

I'd like OmniRemote to be able to cope with the "alternating" codes sent out by some remotes.

My Ferguson VCR alternates between two IR codes with each press of a single button. OmniRemote can learn only one, with the result that the VCR recognises only the first push of each button. So I can't repeatedly push "Channel Up", for instance, or enter Video+ codes which contain repeated digits.

This makes OmniRemote v1.17 practically unusable for me, unless someone can suggest a workaround?

My version 2.0 Wish List..

Ability to use catagory buttons in macros.

Define buttons as repeating or not (eg: ORDesktop).

More button shapes than rectangles.

Method for entering/editing discreet IR codes into the program directly. No external editor needed. Cut/Paste from a document or note.

More than 15 Catagories. I've just about run out and have more I'd like to do but can't! Unlimited would be best.

Hard keys redefineable based on current catagory or perhaps just save various configurations and recall them in a macro.

Custom bitmap icons for buttons.

Perhaps the ability to create screens using a methodology similar to a clickable image map in a web browser. The whole screen is a bitmap and you define regions of the image as buttons. Super Flexible!!

It looks like wishing is not going to get it done. This much anticipated upgrade was supposed to be released in the summer of 1999.
