Anyone using OpenRemote on iPhone to remote control multiple devices? Feel free to share your thoughts on it... Would be interesting to hear what others are using it for.

For example, my next project is to automate on/off the lights in the house from a script.

If you're into OpenRemote and what it can do, you might find these interested.

i am currently setting up my blackberry playbook for openremote. I have also purchased the global cache itach wf2IR module to convert the wifi signals from the tablet into IR that my devices see.

so far, I have successfully programmed MUTE, and VOLUME + for my pioneer receiver. the learning diode is kind of hard for the damn itach to get a good blast of IR from the original remote. and there's way too many codes to try and test. i guess i just didn't have the time to do it since I am a student with a national board exam coming up.

however, so far, i love openremote and it's potentials. I also currently installed it on my iphone and HP touchpad ported to CM9 (android ICS 4.0.3). all working great. currently using an old dell laptop 710m as the controller and i believe it doesn't cost much electricity to keep it running 24/7. it's been going for about a month already in the basement via wifi and no restarts.

I encourage anyone who's interested in openremote and have an android, ios, or playbook with OS 2 firmware to check it out.

the openremote BAR file has been converted and can be downloaded from playbookdaily.com or from here ( i think i uploaded one here)

here's an image of my start screen when you load openremote on the playbook:

Nice startup screen! I agree the Itach learning diode is a little bit hard but I hope OpenRemote will get a reposiroty for common devices in the future.

I just moved from having my controller on my Mac Mini (since it's running 24/7 anyway with Plex Media Server) but I just moved it to my NAS (QNAP) and it works perfectly so far.

Only thing I miss is the Receiver original remote has a "staged" volume which means it runs faster if you hold the Volume UP/DOWN. Now I have to press it several times or "repeat". I wish my Yamaha Receiver had some "preset" volume volumes like 10%, 30%, 50% so if I press 10% it will automatically lower it to that dB.

Hi jojoje,

that's great to hear things are working out for you! it would be nice to have a forum open for openremote on this message board or for the wf2ir router so we can get some preset codes that are known to work. I think openremote should take off with the cost of tablets dropping especially since nook tablet and kindle fire are found on sale for $150-160 and easily rooted and android ported on those devices. openremote is also much cheaper than the pronto line of remotes with a much more customizable interface.

I agree. The only two things I think of that's holding it back (compared to iRuleAtHome) is because you have to learn it codes and maybe because you need a server running 24/7 but maybe they can incorporate a "serverless" version where the actual application on your device is the server.

How have you solved the Pioneer volume up/down?

not yet. i haven't had time to play with it. are you using a itach? how do you make the 3rd port supply more juice so the IR blaster is brighter?

also, where do you find codes to control via TCP? because the tablet is wifi capable, I believe there should be an option some where to control lets say plex, or windows media center etc with codes designed around a wifi infrastructure. but are they universal? if not, how do we create them or where can we source them?
