Hi,

I am wondering if there is an iPhone solution that can replace a Harmony 890 Pro(broken) and a RF extender

Here is my set up. Everything (Cable box, WDTV, BluRay, & hdmi switch) is in my basement using an RF extender. My TV is in my family room on the main level controlled by IR. My Harmony 890 pro is broken, and my Harmony RF extender is working.

Is there an iPhone app and attachment that will transmit RF to my Harmony RF extender and IR to my TV? Or an attachement that will do Bluetooth or wifi to a bluetooth or wifi receiver that will transmit IR to my devices in the basement, along with IR for my TV?

If there is, is it the same price or cheaper than a new Harmony 1100 or 900 remote? I can get one for 50% less than what harmony has it listed for on their site. Is is just as well to make it simple and go ahead and get one of these?

Thanks,
C-Shel

I would suggest RedEye, but if you place the base station in the basement there's no way to control the tv...

I tested one yesterday, as a possible replacement for my Harmony One and 885

So I currently have a harmony 900 set up controlling all of my a/v equipment. I am basically entertaining the idea of replacing the remote with my iPad and iPhone. Can i get all the same functionality out of an iPad app? Right now I control my projector, htpc, ps3, and xbox 360 with the remote. I also control my room lighting which is ir based.

Yes...and No. There are many integration systems out there (I use Bitwise Controls) that feature very, very powerful platforms for using your iphone/ipad/itouch exactly the way you would had you owned a control system that featured a tablet controller, keypad, etc.

I myself market the product to my customers and charge them for programming, equipment and network calibration. This is NOT as simple as downloading some app that asks you for your equipment and attempts to control your home theater components using some silly gadget that you keep on your coffee table or mantle that exudes infra-red. This is a system that converts IP to IR, has serial capability, temperature sensing, soon-to-come two way, very powerful programming platform, ability to create and customize GUI, and a very quick and easy way to synchronize the device with the software from a PC or laptop. Furthermore, the range is pretty much as good as your network connection which can be pretty much as vast as your wired.

So it depends on how serious you are and if you are willing to have a professional integrate your apple device control system. You can also create HTML pages and use any touch screen or non-touch screen device running Windows on it. There are DIY versions of this in using global cache, etc, but not as polished and supported.

I like the idea of RedEye with a Xantech connecting block, but I'd want iPad and iPhone native apps too. I don't think there is one, is there? I wonder about programming vs Pronto and flexibility.

IMHO command fusion is the current king of the iPhone/iPad remote market but it also probably requires the most skill to set up.

RedEye has got a native iPad app since a few months. You don't need to know about coding(as opposed to Prontoscript)

Soon they will release another version(think of it like the RFX9600) where you can connect dedicated IR blasters.

You should try the TouchControl iPhone/iPad app, which as of the last major update now supports the network adapters (wired and WiFi) from Global Caché. TouchControl is a universal app supporting both the iPhone and iPad natively. Create your own fully custom remote control screens and also control many other devices as well. But the Global Caché (http://www.globalcache.com) adapters should give you what you are looking for to replace your RF harmony. I also use the GC-100 device's contact closure interface to control my garage doors from my iPhone with TouchControl! Extremely powerful when used together.
