There's a digital audio player called the Squeezebox. Great player, but, the interesting thing for this forum is that it has both IR in and IR out. The Squeezebox works with an open source server called a SqueezeCenter. The SC supports "plugins". There are already plugins for: - IR repeater - IR listen/record - IR play (from a CLI command on the server) (uses lirc codes)
I've been thinking about buying a Nokia N series internet tablet and writing some simple web pages to run on the server (either CLI actions bound to buttons via javascript or maybe PHP or Ruby). That's a part-way solution as the PDA would just show webpages and touching on-page buttons would cause the Squeezebox to emit IR. A full solution would be a native app, running on the PDA, so the hard buttons could be used, but that's more than I have time to get into.
So... Anyone know of a solution that works somewhat like this already? (I'm not a big fan of wheel-reinvention) Anyone else interested in something like this? Particularly just the web-interface part as I won't find time to do anything else...
PS: The Squeezebox 2 and 3 have IR capabilities, the controller/player duo do not - although the controller can control the 2 and 3 and may eventually, in combination with a 2 or 3, turn into a good all-purpose remote (wifi to server, command to player, IR out from player)...
