Hello, I'm a noob to the PDA world so I may be asking simple questions.

I just got a Ipaq 3950 from ebay with the idea of using it as a remote control for my entertainment computer. I had no idea when I purchased it that they had IR transmitters in them, I thought that they only did IRDA which isn't compatible with standard remotes.

I was very surprised to find out that it came with Nevo which did almost exactly what I was getting ready to build. I programmed it fast and it works nicely with my system, but I don't like the gui it comes with I wanted to be able to build my own.

At the advice of some of the other post on this forum I purchased RemoteControlII yesterday (I've had the PDA 3 days now) and get straight to work making customized remote pages. It worked great during programming while setting close to the receiver but when I tried using it as I normally would I doesn't transmit for enough.

NEVO works from any distance in the room but RCII has a range of 4 to 5 feet. I have spent hours today going through the settings and trying different combinations to no avail.

I'm using an Ipaq 3950, receiver is a USB-UIRT and software is EventGhost.
The available settings are;
COM1: Serial Cable on COM1
COM2: Infrared Port, IrDa
COM3: Infrared Port, IrCOMM
COM6: CIRUart
COM9: Serial on USB, SerialUSB

I have tried using all the ports, even the serial ones, and no change. I was surprised to find out the serial ones would even work for this, makes me think the settings aren't actually changing.

I've also ran the Transmit Priority slider up and down with every port, still no change. That's the only two settings there seems to be. Any ideas that may fix the range problem? Thanks for any help you can give me.

I got an answer from RCII support. This PDA has two ir ports one normal low powered and one high powered just for Nevo. RCII uses the low powered one as that is what's supplied with most other PDAs.

Does anyone know of customizable software that uses the high powered port?
