I am looking into using a Palm pda as a remote. For those of you who used such a beast, I would like to hear your thoughts on a couple of questions:
1. Has your touch screen worn out or malfunctioned from the repeated presses on the display?
2. How long do your monochrome/color Palm pda's last between charges?
3. Does your Palm go into sleep mode after a period of inactivity? What do you do to revive the Palm and return to the remote control software? Is this a hassle?
thanks

Everybody puts a screen protector on, a thin film of tough clear material, but how long a palm or any other PDA screen lasts is unpredictable, but its more like dropping vs wearing out.
Different palms have different battery lives. Turning an AV system on and off and doing some channel surfing each night might only be 15 minutes of actual ON time. My old M515 with a new 1000 mah battery will run continuously with the backlight on low for 8 hours on a charge, much longer with it off.
If you aren't using them, they shut off after so many seconds, and instantly return to the same spot with a tap to the power button.
Now the grain of salt, I don't use my palm for a remote yet, still shopping for a program, but thinking on the Noviiremote software, so I don't know its specific behavior, just that of other palm stuff.
I picked the M515 for low cost, great IR range, and my wife still uses hers, so we share assessories like chargers in the cars.

Hi Danglerb!

As far as I remember, the m515 used to have the strongest IR range with the noviiremote app. So you must try it out! There's a trial available on novii.tv
