I am trying to intergrate a media center pc into a home theater system, controlled by an mx3000. The codes control the media center pc, but the directional buttons are only responding to the first touch. A second touch won't work for a few minutes, then you can hit it again. Going back and forth the original pc remote does not have this problem. Anybody have a reason why? It learns the code, but can't repeat it in succession. Do the pc remotes have some kind of sequential coding that changes for scrolling? The only solution I can come up with is to have the customer use 2 remotes...(yuck!). Any help would be great. Thanks.

The technique for teaching ANY universal remote is to use a short-sharp tap on the original remote to teach keys that require just 1 keypress (such as the numeric keys) but for commands that require you to press and hold a key such as the directional buttons or volume, then teach the command by pressing and holding it until the command is learnt. Many IR remotes do send 2 different IR codes for "press" and "hold" commands but this should not be a problem for the MX series.

For more control you can use different drivers for the MCE-side of things and so this page may be of interest to you: [Link: byremote.com.au]

Thanks for the link. I have used the long hold and tap technique to troubleshoot this, but I'm not trying to press and hold, I'm just trying to hit the button twice, and have the pc respond twice, and it won't do it. It only allows the cursor to scroll down 1, then when you hit the button again, even after a slight pause, it won't go down again. You try to move up, same thing, it moves up one, then you press again, and it won't do it. I even went in to a local Circuit City with an MX350, grabbed a sony, an emachines and an hp remote, learned up/down codes in, and tried it, with the same effect. The manufacturer remotes do not have this problem. I'll read into the link and see if this helps. Thanks!

I was researching something else and I think I stumbled on to the reason for your problem. The MCE Remote sends out toggle codes and so each press of the same key will send out a different IR code which makes the teaching of commands very complicated. I would contact HTI to see if they have any pre-built codes libraries that emulate the MCE as I suspect this is the only way it will work.

I had the same problem with my MX-850 and MCE, there is an option to enable "Universal Remotes" in MCE but you can only access it with TweakMCE tools found at:

[Link: microsoft.com]

Once you install Tweak MCE there is a new menu under settings of MCE and you can turn on Universal Remote support, that will do the trick and you can press the directional keys more than once in a row.

Hope that helps!!

I don't know if this will help anyone or not. But I had a problem with my MX350 lowering and raising my Draper Solara movie screen. It seemed that the pulse from the remote was too short to activate the relay in the screen. The relay would click but seldom start the motor. I used a rapid two or three tap of the screen remote when I had the MX350 in the learning mode. For some reason this seemed to lenghten the time of the initial signal to the screen and it works fine now. Hope this helps.

Having the exact same problem programming an MX500 with a MCE 2005 version 1 remote. When navigating the buttons will only work once. I will try the aforementioned tweak and see if it works.

The tweak software doesn't work with .net 2.0 - I found this on the web:

The third option is to simply disable the debounce feature of Media Center and use a single set of IR codes. I don't know why this isn't exposed in the settings screens in Media Center, because it's something that anyone with a learning remote will run into. To disable the debounce feature, you need to modify a single registry key. Standard registry editing rules apply...make sure you create a backup, know what you're doing, etc., etc. The key is called EnableDebounce, and from what I've read in various posts, it's found in the following locations:

For Media Center 2004: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\idIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da

For Media Center 2005: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da

So, fire up RegEdit, navigate to the appropriate key, and change the EnableDebounce value from 1 (its default setting) to 0. Note that you'll have to reboot your system for this change to take effect. After this modification, my universal remote now works like a charm, and I've added one more remote to the remote control graveyard behind my big screen TV.

I'm trying it now.

A heads up for all of you folks out there, Vista MCE works fine with no tweaking whatsoever. Successfully using an MX-850 and an MX-3000 with Vista Ultimate and I have no issues at all. I'm using the Microsoft IR Receiver which flashes my cable box to change channels, then I use the MRF-300 to flash all of the rest of my devices including the MS IR Receiver.

I tried this with Vista Ultimate but it will only let me press the buttons once. How did you set the remote up? Did you manually learn the buttons?

I ha dthe EXACT same issue with my Niveus Media Center with Windows Vista, i.e. that the commands only worked the first time and not the second time unless another command was sent in between. The following solved it:

Change Registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\HidIr\Remotes\745a17a0-74d3-11d0-b6fe-00a0c90f57da
from "1" to "0" and reboot the system.

MANY thanks for finding this out as Universal Remote tech support didn't seem to know about this.

You forgot to add which key to modify stated above:
EnableDebounce value from 1 (its default setting) to 0
