I have been looking at many different brands of remotes for the past few months and wanting to buy one... But for my needs it must be able to:

1) Control the mouse (like with a small joystick)

2) Programmed to use non-computer stuff (reciever, TV, etc.)

From all of my searching there doesnt appear to be any that do this.... Some will do the mouse, some are learning and universal, but none are both?

Any ideas? Thx!

As far as I can tell, there are 2-3 in existance.

One just came out made by Gyration. "Perfect" concept, but a few critical flaws. Check out my review of it on Amazon
Another is made by Niveus, but available only in EU unless you can find some on Ebay. And there are a few Niveus clones that are no longer made. However, if Gyration was made with less bugs, Niveus wouldnt even come close

I use my universal remote for everything except not the mouse. I use the diNovo Edge keyboard which makes for a great HTPC control. The diNovo Edge is a great HTPC control which is something like using a laptops mouse control and works excellent.

I bought maybe half a dozen or more different HTPC controllers and none satisfied me, most were difficult to control the mouse, Gyration was difficult to control and always lost it's connection requiring me to unplug and replug the USB and re-establish the RF link almost every time I used it after it sat for just a short while.

So now I use my one remote and one keyboard, together they control everything very well.

Here is a link for the diNovo Edge keyboard:

Hi, there are other choices in remotes with the Soundgraph products. I have one that came with my Silverstone case and it even turns my system on and off if I want it to. Check it out here:

There are other options on their website so look over their website. What ever you pick you will still need a keyboard. I couldn't find anyway around it.

Another thought I had was a small touch screen monitor but that is just too expensive for my pocket book.

Hi,
I have been thinking about this thread for awhile now and I am interested in the Dinovo Edge or some kind of keyboard with a touchpad. There is another keyboard like this.

[Link: adesso.com]

I would think the the Adesso would have the better touchpad because they make touchpads that are really good ones.

Does anyone know how well the Dinovo touchpads works and how they compare to the Adesso touchpad? Has anyone tried the Adesso wireless keyboard with the touchpad and how does it work?

I am finding I need to use the keyboard and mouse to enter data for the "My Movies" Plugin for Media Center.
